The planet Vaycarro is the homeworld of the Bueban, orbiting the F type star Rootud in the Crux Arm- only slightly more massive than Sol, Rootud is however a bit older and has a lower metallicity (enrichment of elemenst heavier than hydrogen), making all of its planets much lower in mass than their size would suggest. Vaycarro is the third planet in orbit at 1.09 Astronomical Units (164 million kilometers) and 405 days orbit (about 313 local days) with a 31 hour rotation, a low axial tilt and one moon, Apesh. The planet is the densest planet in the system (about 80% Earth density), with a radius of 5139 km and about 41% Earth mass, with a low surface gravity of 0.64 g and a reasonably dense nitrogen-oxygen atmosphere.
Despite being the densest planet around Rootud, it is still fairy low mass- coupled with a somewhat advance age of almost 5 billion years, this has resulted in a cooled interior and a wakening magnetic field- although limited, tidal heating from Apesh has maintained its core hot enough to produce a protective magnetosphere. However, the surface is still battered by strong solar radiation, resulting in a dwindling hydrosphere as water vapors saturates the atmosphere and is slowly escaping the atmosphere. The surface, meanwhile, is suffering from a lack of tectonic activity, resulting in fairy flat landmasses and vast swats of open grasslands and patches of very tall forests (up to a kilometer high), giving the planet a somewhat patchwork appearance. The water rich atmosphere also produces a very stormy climate, and the periodic storms produce very strong deluges that sculpt the landscape into breathtaking natural rock formation that would be impossible on higher gravity worlds.
The local bueban have evolved in the open northern plains of the largest continent, Anut, and have since come to dominate the planet. Unlike most species, however, their psychology has made its so that they control very little of the actual planet, with a few dozen city states forming the bulk of their civilization while much of the planet remains untouched except for occasional hunting parties prowling the wilds.
