Yeah, I might re-draw him.
Oddly enough I'm more bothered by the shield.

You'd be surprised how many classic Marvel characters predate Marvel comics as we know it today and how many DC comics characters didn't even start of at DC.

Further back than you might know, there was a time when Superman and Batman were the new kids on the block that a few people didn't think would make it and they've both been around since the late 1930's.

Seems to be my favorite version of him to draw.
A nice classic soldiers uniform that gives him that pulp hero feel like Lobster Johnson or The Rocketeer.
Were during WWII they made a modern superhero design, now in the modern day a few artist try to send him back in the with a retro design... I just confused myself by saying that.

I think it's good that they plan on at least having a good portion of his WWII origins in the film, I bet any other studio would want to rush right through that in order to make it a modern day action popcorn flick.

I'm sure he'll be the intimidating nazi supervillain we all know and not the rubberfaced Italian villain from the long forgotten live action Cap film of the 90's... I think it was the 90's.

I really like the aspect of this set. Very nicely done on this rendition of Cap, it doesn't look to cartoony but I can see a semblence between the Team Fortress 2 Soldier and your pic. I think this looks much better, I really hope you keep up the fantastic work!

KidNotorious In reply to miklbane [2010-06-07 07:08:11 +0000 UTC]
Oh yeah, you're right.
I should have mentioned somewhere that I was trying to make these recent character sketches a little more on the cartoony side.
Most of this stuff is drawn with the thought that they might be used somewhere in the comic shop I create artwork for... I wish I could show more of that stuff, these few sketches are the small warm-ups to the larger pieces I've done for the shop in the same style.
But yeah, Cap does look a bit short in this pic.

It's all good. I totally dig it. I'm a big fan of chibi, well in this case they aren't exactly chibi, but I think you know what I mean. Regardless, these look fantastic. I think I like this old Cap best. Next would be the Black Widow

I actually drew this just earlier today to get myself going and the modern Cap later on to cool myself down.
The modern Cap was a singled out "re-draw" from a group shot featuring Iron Man, Spider-man, Thing and the Hulk all in the same style that I drew back in September of last year and just 2 days ago I drew a big X-Men piece in the same fashion... it's killin' me that I'm not showing this stuff here.

It's all stuff for the comic shop that has yet to be colored.
One thing I have to keep in mind when I post stuff here on DA is that there are going to be people who are going to ask to color my stuff... and then there are people who don't ask.
Every once in a while I'll go searching for character reference here and end up running into one of my own drawings that somebody has taken and colored or modified and neglected to run it by me or even mention that I had anything to do with it.
When it comes to the stuff I do specifically for the shop they all have one thing in common in that they all feature the shop's resident superhero and I just been uncomfortable with the though that it might be nabbed if I post the lines for them here.
If they were finished color pieces and put into use at the shop I would go ahead and post some of it here but most of that stuff is still in the works... however there are some collabs floating around here already that I plan to do a little journal feature on as soon as one more piece is posted.

I can absolutely understand and respect that. I personally love coloring other peoples work as a way of helping me to be a better colorist, but Never would I do so without the permission of someone who's art I'm working on.
Here's hoping you can post the finished work up soon!
