Theβonly unicorns with the horn glow the same color as their eyes are Rarity, Sweetie Bell, and Sunset (as far as I'm aware). Twilight's horn glow is different, but similar, to her eye color. Trixie's is a similar situation to Twilight. Starlight, Shining, and Sunburst all have a horn glow different from their eye color. (Yes I'm aware that I didn't include the other princesses (Twilight was only included because she was a unicorn before becoming a princess))

Nighty does strike me as the sort of pony who would want to say he's finally got an apprentice of his own and is following in Princess Celestia and his mother's hoofsteps. And Sugar could use a mentor who's approachable and her own age.
That said, I also think they would drive each other absolutely crazy most times, given their respective personalities.
