Description Edit: I made a silhouette to account for scale for anyone interested.  Silhouette depicts a 6-foot tall male human, likely a local hunter based on his regalia and dress.  All of these bestiary pics will come with one of these (though I'm not sure if the D&D dragons will be getting one yet or not).

Name: Orca Dragon

Type: Draconid, Leviathan

Habitat/Niche: Shallow seas, colder near-arctic waters, apex predator

Description: Orca Dragons are fairly large as leviathans go, ranging anywhere between 12-16 meters in length (40-55 feet) with thick, heavy bodies that are brimming with muscle and blubber.  They are primarily apex predators with few enemies, preying on large oceanic animals (with white sharks and dolphins making up the bulk of their diet).  Like their namesake, Orca Dragons tend to have sleek, dark bodies with white markings that have varying patterns.

Orca Dragons tend to have several features that are unique among Leviathans, both physical and behavioral.  Their 'fins' are actually modified spines consisting of a mix of bone, keratin, and toughened epidermal layers, though they function on a similar level to dorsal fins.  The fluke on the end of its long tail is functional, aiding it in forward propelling motion, though it is likely they may also serve a role in attracting mates.  In terms of behavior Orca Dragons tend to be unique in that they are fairly social creatures, swimming in pods of around seven individuals that tend to include a mating pair, a beta male/female, two sub-adults and two yearlings.

Despite being apex predators, Orca Dragons tend to leave sailors alone unless provoked, though they are intelligent enough to recognize whaling ships that are outfitted for leviathan capture.  Despite this, Orca Dragons will even occasionally aid whalers in a hunt, helping to take down a whale in exchange for any soft tissue not used to make whale oil.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I initially came up with Orca Dragons a long time ago for my now defunct Halcyon/Falgrim Mythos.  I liked the idea so much that I thought I might as well make a spiritual successor to that old design in my new bestiary project.  I'm pretty proud of how this one came out.

Wait. Dragons can now be both in the water and on land. Let's just leave the world, before it's too late!

And leave behind a massive opportunity for profit from harvested dragon scales?! Never in a million years! XP

Now that I think about it that is a great idea.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water. It follows you onto the land!

Granted, they are fairly slow moving on land, but I suppose that's besides the point XP
