hm.. taking something that really happens in the wild and putting it in an anthro perspective is a really interesting concept. It's something I rarely see without being a cartoon with thought-bubbles.

Ironically enough, I saw this piece in person at Further Confusion before I saw it online! Usually it's the other way around, for me!
One reason why this specifically caught my attention was because Alan Dean Foster, one of the guests of honor and also the speaker for the Character Development Panel, had said that as much as he enjoyed some of the art out there, it was rare that he saw pictures that had characters with flaws, like a handicapped character. Then I leave that panel, go to the art auction section, and what do I see? Survival of the Fittest! I do hope he saw this picture before he left the convention.

LOL. I love the ponderous look on the wolf's face, and how the one caribou nervously looks over while the rest of them go about their business. Wonderful.

I found myself thinking two things (at the same time! my mother would be so proud... if she cared). One, the injured reindeer (moose? goat?) reminds me oh-so much of little uhm... Timmy? I don't remember his name but the kid with the leg issue in A Christmas Carol.
Two, that wolf seems to be saying. "Hmmm... that one appears to have a gimp!"
I don't know how that works, maybe I'm just crazy...
