In Poland poppies are symbol of blood of Polish soldiers who died in the Battle of Monte Cassino. Because of that we tend to consider them to be our national flowers.Β
We even have song "The red poppies on Monte Cassion", in Polish "Czerwone maki na Monte Cassino". Also, 11 of November is our Independence Day as we came back to existance as a country after 123 years of nonexistance after set of betrayals and cooperation between Prussia, Austria and Russia which let us to getting conquered. It's actually hard to even call it that way, if not for the uprising that took place in the third and last stage of dividing our lands, it would have been pretty much just some kind of peaceful treaty which made us disappear. How weird is that?

Wow, really? I didn't know that! Thank you so much for the little lesson!
And happy late Independence Day!
It seems poppies are used in a similar way for you too, then.
Thanks again!

That is one beautiful shading! I love how you did the flowers with darker colours, it gives the picture a more dramatic effect. The splotches, which I assume must be blood, are a nice touch as well. It isn't entirely defined, though.
Also, I hope Mattie's okay!

In France, the flower is the cornflower (in french "bleuet"). It's the first time I hear about this poem and the poppies, I didn't knew that ;v;... I don't thing poppies are the symbol here...
Very beautiful !

Oh my God.... Beautiful, simply beautiful.Β In America, poppies do symbolize remembrance, at least that's what I remember from the time I researched it in 5th grade....Β
Just spotted the dog tags and was hit with feels.
DAMMIT WHY MUST YOU MAKE ME CRYYYYYYYYYYYY

Huh, interesting! Do you wear poppy pins over your heart? We have these little velvety pins that people wear around Remembrance Day.Β Like this
The wreaths and memorials are also decorated with poppies.
I'm glad you noticed the tags :3
Thank you!

In America, at least where I am....Β We don't really do anything besides nice things for the veterans and special flag ceremonies.Β It's like this generation's forgotten how to respect.Β I personally wish I were somewhere else, because America's goin' down the toilet.Β Is Canada any better?Β (Don't worry, I won't crash the immigration website like it did on the 8th.)
No problem ^^

Haha Canada's doing pretty well, but I might be a bit biased...
On Remembrance Day, there are ceremonies all over the country. I hear the ones in Ottawa are especially amazing.
Poppies and wreaths are laid everywhere all across Canada, and people wear the pins in the weeks surrounding the 11th.
My mother is in Quebec, and she attended the ceremony there, and apparently in the city she's in they laid crosses all over the median of a big hill in town.
She sent pictures, and it was veryΒ well attended! The whole square was full of people.
The one in my town filled a whole banquet hall as well, and we aren't a big community...
I still can't believe the site crashed xD
Americans be cray cray.
(Although, given the circumstance...)

Woah...Β Dammit, now I wanna move there (not to flee Trump, thankfully-- if he gets rid of Common Core that will be enough to praise him)...Β That sounds so cool....Β Man, wish I was there.
Yes, we Americans can be crazy af (if you're shy, you do not want to see my circle of friends-- crazy as hell, but I'm crazy with 'em...).Β Actually kind of proud of it.... There's this quote I saw about the American Military, it went with two quotes about how the American Military was unpredictable-- the quote went something like this:Β "For if we do not act without prediction, how will we know the future, since it is also unpredictable"?Β Something like that...
(Also, how to use the small font....)

Haha, I hope I'd get along with people from other nations... I'm a very loud and outgoing person, maybe I'm some relation to Alfred? X'DD Well at least I get along with British people, something he has yet to do...
It's so true, the stereotype.... We don't even react to insults, we just correct them (and in some occasions, make them worse...)Β Well, the people that I know are loud, as is pretty much everyone at my school...
Ooo!Β WHERE DID YOU GO I WANNA MEET NORWEGIANS AND AUSTRALIANS AND NEW ZEALANDERS (I'm not a xenophobe at all X'DDD)
Oooo...interesting.Β Thank you ^^

Haha I went to Japan on a five month exchange a few years back :3
It was quite fun. I didn't get to see the other international students that often since we were all dispatched to various parts of the country, but those few times we did get together were a riot!

That's a great picture, really well drawn. The poppies in the background and he holding them... very meaningful.Β
I love the coloring and shading, your art style is wonderful Β
The 11th November isn't a Remembrance Day in Germany and we also haven't got the poppies as a symbol. Our Remembrance Day for the victims of WWI is the "Volkstrauertag" ("People's day of mourning"), it's on the 13th November this year (two sundays before the first sunday of Advent); it's also Remembrance Day for the victims of WWII (we also have a separate day of remembrance for the victims of nazism and WWII on the 27th January, because Auschwitz was liberated on 27th January 1945).Β
And I think many Germans don't know about "In Flanders Fields", I guess the most commonly known written work of WWI here is "Im Westen nichts Neues" ("All quiet on the western front") by Erich Maria Remarque, many students have to read it in school.
