Description YAY! Meesa finally finished this piccy!!! I REALLY like it, so I took my time... That and I was working on a rediculasly LARGE psd file..... (I'm running Photoshop 7 on 64 mb of RAM, for those of you who know what I'm talking about)... Anyway.

I love the Yugi boys. What can I say... And this is about as sexy a look you're going to get from me... The 'come and get it'....(Did I mention that I suck at that sort of thing).... Anyway.... Something NOT so sickeningly cute. YAY!!!!

I love this pic.

PS And DONT ask me about my obsession with orange backgrounds lately....

he he he. thats cool really cool. i like the atmosphere in it. when your colouring your pics , do you colour the background or the character first?? how did you do the background?
64MB?? i didnt think you could do that??
i only got photoshop cs and i have to run it on 128MB RAM....it needs 256MB
thats why im asking them questions too,'cuz i wanna know how to colour anime pics and have no clue

I always start with the char.... because I'm not certain how it will turn out when it's finished... so the background comes last (and you can usually tell, cuz I'm so tired by then)....

The background is done with gradiants and lighting effects: first I layed out the base gradiant (horizontally, radiating both ways, from a brownish to a basic orange), second I layed out the shadows under the chair using various brown to transparent gradiants, third I added a flood light spot (rendered from lighting effects).

Yami, himself, is a number of different color layers on top of one another with a transparent/black outline on top. LOTS of blur & paintbrush tools.

I probably do things the hard way... I figured it out for myself with no intruction... but it works... so I can't complain....

And yes.... 64 RAM.... Whenever I tell people that they look at me in disbelief... "It doesn't freeze?" Actually, it runs rather well.... (and I only have a celeron processer 550 mh). It's only when I get into files that are large.... when it complains.... Over 8 or 9 layers.... This pic had 14 layers....

that will help me alot now. the next picture i do will be done the way you described here.im gonna try some new styles of colouring out.
well if it works for you then thats the way to do it

do you do a new layer for each different colour you put in? i have a 1.2Ghz celeron processor and my photoshop sometimes takes its time. but as long as it gets the job done i dont mind.

thanks so much for the tips
is 14 layers alot of layers for the pictures you usually do? like, is that how many layers your average picture is?

sorry bout all the questions im just very curious and really want to know how to colour the way i want to......

No.. Its cool.... If it helps!

14 is a lot..... for this Yugi... I did a layer for skintones, a layer for black (including the black in his hair), several layers for his clothes (one for white, one for his grey stuff like buckles, etc), and a layer for the rest of his hair and eyes..... I left out his puzzle in this pic, but I usually give it it's own layer. The chair had it's own layer....

I used to use the 'fill between the lines' technique, but it got to hairy for me once I started just scanning pencil drawings and using the mouse to go over the outline.... now I use multiple layers for color, so you can stack them, and it doesn't have to be as neat underneath (except for the top layers, obviously)

I usually only use.... uh.... 6 or 7.... but I was being real anal for this pic and I was getting lazy on the neatness factor.....

looks like a lot of work.
the shadow under the chair turned out really good

yeah the layers for the different colours would help so you dont go wrong.
i dont completely understand you on the multiple layers for the colour thing? sorry. how do you put the colours in the new layers-do you just colour in between the lines of the previous layer? or.....? im

well the pic turned out great.

sorry that i keep asking you more and more but its really helping.
thank you.

I use the outlines as a guide for all the different layers.... however... if you do it that way... you really only need to used one layer for color... If it would help, I could send you a screen cap of what I mean....
