Description Talamai, I admit, isn't the most talented wizard out there... but she does love to experiment. And sometimes, that can be a bad combination.

SO this was originally going to be a quick sketch that I slapped some color on and put in Scraps, cause I just really liked the sketch... and then I remembered looking over =kawaiiyume 's Photoshop coloring tutorial. At first I was appalled that she only used one layer, but then I remembered how I used to do things back in the old days before I discovered layers - which was very similar. So I thought I'd try Yume's technique out - and I liked it a lot! One layer can be tricky, but it's nice to simplify things once in a while.

So today's moral is - try something new!

edit: Okay, okay, I added some wrinkles to her shirt. An improvement, yes??

Kinda makes me think of Hocus Pocus where they open the book at the kid's house.

Great expression! The framing of the picture is fantastic!

Great use of color, very nice concept... my wife feels the same about me in the kitchen, "Tom isn't the most talented cook out there... but he does love to experiment. And sometimes, that can be a bad combination" Great piece.

I love the expression! It's great! And the lightning, too. A ha ha...perhaps people really shouldn't even try messing with that sort of stuff.

HA this is so me... *explains why I was not allowed to do Food in school*

Clothering does take practice, and at least you don't put TOO MANY creases, because that just looks odd .

Haha!!! Yeah, a lot of times I see wrinkles overdone, while I have the opposite problem.

Cute. I like it.

I know exactly what you mean about wanting to keep things simple. One ends up doing tons and tons of layers... lol like in my last render... layer.. ok looks good... merge down... next layer... ok... looks good... merge down... next layer... oops I should have drawn on the new layer... undo... and so forth. I'll have to try checking out the tutorial and giving it a go.

hehe... mostly I just love how much easier it is to blend when everything's on the same layer!

Gotta LOVE her expression! Great job on the lighting and that book.

Only thing that bothers me is the lack of folds on her clothes!

I think I'll be adding some wrinkles in her shirt; you're not the only one who mentioned it.

i find less layers are less confusing, not always easier, but less confusing. i myself use only 2-3 layers, and the most ever included a text layer and it was a 5 layer piece. ^_^

i think this dev turned out great the angle is well executed, but the only problem i have is that it looks like you spent more time on the face then anywhere else so it makes the rest of it look simpler. this could probably be fixed by adding some wrinkles to the clothing cause i don't think you meant for her to look as full bodied as a dough roll. XD people have curves and crevices, give'er some! ^_^

hope that wasn't too harsh or anything, i really like the book and light blast, very nice indeed

Thank you! It's not too harsh at all, I really appreciate meaningful critique. And I definitely see what you mean! I have problems with making clothing not look skintight. Somebody else mentioned wrinkles too so I think I'll be adding some.

Andlynne In reply to Kecky [2006-03-16 21:58:08 +0000 UTC]

cool cool, and clothing doesn't have to be skin tight to have wrinkles, but it certainly looks like the clothing here looks like it should be form fitting so wrinkles usually appear. and if the clothing hangs on a person there are air pocket wrinkles, so unless she's wrapped in foam the clothes need wrinkles XD lol

hmm wrapped in foam...i guess she wouldnt be afraid to fall over XD lol

Kecky In reply to Andlynne [2006-03-17 01:43:47 +0000 UTC]

No, I was thinking that if something WAS made out of like, Spandex, and was sewn into an exact body shape, then it wouldn't have any wrinkles, and that's how I tend to draw clothing. It's a bad habit of mine. I know what you mean though!!

Andlynne In reply to Kecky [2006-03-17 03:59:19 +0000 UTC]

lol, i like to think the pilsbury dough boy wears spandex and that he really is made entirely from dough, kinda like how boogie woogie from nightmare before christmas is made entirely from bugs.
