Description This is an old, old character. She's from what was supposed to be the sequel to the first 'novel' I ever finished, in 8th grade. It was a wretched horrible hot mess of magic crystals, gaping plot holes, and the four elements, and I thought I was going to be published and famous before I hit high school.

Obviously... that didn't happen. But nostalgia is fun, and I've been scrounging for things to draw, so here she is. She's from the fire world and her family breeds dragons. of COURSE.

lololol, I think every one has that horrible typo-ridden fantasy "manuscript" they scrawled out in their teens. But at least you did an awesome job making yours semi-respectable with this wicked illustration!

I really like how you colored the egg. All gritty lines but still warm-looking.

Absolutely goregous... the red side lighting, the very subtle texture, and the background which doesn't just seem randomly slapped on. This is a great illustration (and hey, nostalgia is never a bad thing )

Don't worry, we all had the same delusions

I wonder if every 14yearold girl writes a story centering around the elements? 'cause i totally did too. Have to say though!: the dragon breeding is awesome.

ALSO. the gold of the egg: D8 OMG. FANTASTIC!!

We all had stories like that You practically described one that me & my childhood friend thought up... I have to say though, your drawing skills are fantastic with this! The lighting looks really nicely done & so do the curls of hair and the determined expression.

Hehehe. I remember writing stuff like that. Though if you ever wanted to revise it or something I think you could get it published! or heck! With your art skills you could even make your own graphic novel! Love this picture! The expression is awesome, and really intriguing! Great job with the colors and background!

Do I even need to say I love it? It's so... so LUSTROUS. The colors, yes, but just the shapes of it too... the roundness and the flow. It's just very visually sensuous. <3

why do 8th grade fantasy stories always involve the four elements? i remember writing something using them around that time myself... gorgeous pic, btw!

Kecky In reply to PixieSmell [2008-12-07 05:04:46 +0000 UTC]

Oh man, I even got mad at my friend because she was writing one too!!! I had the whole series planned out with a book for each element.

PixieSmell In reply to Kecky [2008-12-08 06:50:59 +0000 UTC]

yeah, at the time I thought it was so original... I remember writing one story with four little different coloured creatures in it, then got really mad when my teacher compared it to the teletubbies and abandoned the whole thing in disgust.

It's beautiful! Had this been on the cover, it would have been a best seller for sure!

The coloring is gorgeous; I like the warm tones. The dragon egg is also really nice, the texture especially. I love her hair, too. It's almost what mine would look like if I were a movie star / fictional character and had flawless hair.

RetroSushi [2008-12-05 04:43:02 +0000 UTC]

The story sounds kinda cheesy (haha!) but this picture is beautiful! I love how you handled the lighting, especially around her hands. The texture looks great on the egg as well. You also handled the background very nicely! The gradient in combination with the pattern works very well with the lighting.
I feel a little iffy about the arms though. I'm thinking that they are too short for the length of her body.

But overall, you did a fantastic job!

Kecky In reply to RetroSushi [2008-12-05 04:51:46 +0000 UTC]

You have NO idea!

I feel the same way about the arms. I reworked her left one during sketching, but it just kept coming out the same so I gave up because this was only supposed to be a quick little thing. Thanks!!
