Critique time! Don't judge, and when people critique, they're helping people with their OCs.
1. A plain grey coat with a prismatic mane & tail? Not a very good combo.
2. What is she? A Changeling or a Crystal Pony?
3. One thing I liked was the Gala Dress. It's pretty.

Her gala dress is pretty. I like that it has the semi-glossy-rainbowy look to it.

This is actually a pretty good character, although I feel like you could have been a little more creative with the design, the character herself is relatable and feels genuine unlike alot of others out there.

I like it.

Cool!
Though, terribleponies put it on their blog. I can see why. I guess they just dislikes the pastelly rainbow mane against the grey coat. Meh.

Her concept is pretty cute, but I reccomend making her coat a light blue or a white, because it would complement her shimmering mane well without going over board! The grey kind of dulls it out a bit.

MY OC isnt meant to be IN the pony universe. She is an OC that I made to my personal design. I don't mean for her to be frolicking around with Twilight or Apple bucking with AJ. I didn't design her for that. I designed her for me, to have an OC that I enjoy.

Okimonoko In reply to Kazziepones [2014-09-16 14:42:36 +0000 UTC]
yes, I know most OCs aren't meant to be in the pony universe, but there are guidelines to an OC. The grey body is fine, but a spray paint texture with neon colours sort of clashes.

Lolwat?
Since when were there ten written commandments of OC making? Last time I checked, there's no punishable law that said, "Thou shalt not make a character of originality for the individual to enjoy".
People can take this "OC Guideline" bullshit and shove it.

more like "un-recomended" for an oc
nice way to rewrite the same comment as the one below.

I don't mind when people say "un-recommended". It's a lot nicer to say than "OC guidelines you can't do this waaaaah."
I do that to drive a point home. She's right, that's what OCs are for. They're not made to push a business or to make money, they're made for personal enjoyment.

Kazziepones In reply to Okimonoko [2014-09-16 17:35:21 +0000 UTC]
Last time I checked, there weren't guidelines to creating a character for yourself to enjoy. Second, It's not a spray paint texture. It's not a texture period. Her hair reflects light. The "spray paint texture with neon colors" was a personal art choice that I was using to imitate sparkles. They may be a bit thick, even, but this is literally one of the first pieces of work I ever created.Β
Third, I appreciate your feedback, but I would like to point out that every artist has a different way of portraying the way my Oc's Hair works.  As you can see here: kazziepones.deviantart.com/fav⦠ there are many diverse ways that my character can be portrayed.
I did not ask for, or want a critique of my character. She is solely for me, and no one else.Β

I can't really complain about the art style. The story, on the other hand, i can criticize with wild abandon. She seems a bit above average with not enough downsides. Basically, you did the upsides kinda right, but you did the downsides wrong. Occasionally getting in trouble isn't much of a downside. You need to have more than that for a well-liked filly who learns easier than others, all the while having a high aptitude for magic. ESPECIALLY for that, in fact. However, i can commend you for getting so much right. Good work. 7/10.

75 FUCKING DOLLARS FOR A BASE?
π: 0 β©: 1
Kazziepones In reply to cynicalsix [2014-09-15 23:48:03 +0000 UTC]
Just to clarify, The word 'base' is used as a synonym for the term 'base line' As in starting point. Β This is not a base, as in paper doll, or vectored by something else. Β Reference sheets take an extreme amount of work, and span up to 40 hours of time that I could spend doing something else. All of my drawings are done by hand, sketched, lined and colored on a digital tablet.Β
My price for reference sheets has been reduced to 50 dollars for over 7 months. Take into account The US standard minimum wage, and I am currently being paid 4.21$ an hour.Β
50 dollars for 40 hours of work is a damn fine bargain. Especially when you take into account that some artists charge 50 dollars for a sketch.

iiiii have to comment about this.
you are in all rights to charge what you want.
but 50 dollars...?
i'd be surprised if people would pay anyone to draw a digital piece of art with resources that don't run out for even 30.Β
but again you are entitled to do what you want.
but this is on terribleponies, just to let you know.

Commission prices aren't just about materials involved, dude! Β Time is valuable. Β Don't you value yours?
DevART's weird culture of expecting an hour long sketch session to run 5 bucks is devaluing everything artists do.
And terribleponies can suck it; it amazes me that a fandom for a show about friendship and pretty colors seems to attract so much of humanity's pap smear bacteria. >:c
