Description Ivory looked up at me, her eyes sparkled. "Yes Rell, as I said I died." She stared at me with her cheeks puffed out like a little kid whose younger brother took the cookie and mommy didn't believe her.
She went back to staring empty-mindedly at the floor. "Moreover I was killed." She paused. "When I was alive I did a lot of really bad things. A few times I was even involved in a gang or two…or five." 'Five, really???'  She continued. "Countless innocents actually died at my hands and even my little brother was caught up in all the violence." 'I had no idea what to say to that. I mean would you? Really?'  But something in her voice told me that she was indeed telling the truth.
"Well needless to say when I got to heaven, God wasn't all to happy with me. He said that when I had cried enough that my tears turned red he'll let me into heaven." Ivory paused, letting the anxiety and melancholy of the moment fill the small, broken house. Ivory's bangs hid her face well, but they couldn't mask the crystal beads dripping down her face.
I dropped to the floor behind her and held her close. Ivory's colorless face turned scarlet in an instant. "R-Rell!!! W-What are you doing?" she stuttered. I hid my own reddening face in her blonde hair and said, "I-It's called a hug Ivory, you need one." She slowly turned and faced me, tears still flowing down her face. Ivory cried harder than ever in my arms. For what seemed eternity we stayed  there, silently vowing to never let go. Never let her go.
I came back to see her the next week.
"So does that make you a ghost or something?" I asked. She shook her head. "No Rell I'm not a ghost." She chuckled making me blush a tad. "But most people can't see me, I wonder why…" She paused. Ivory looked like she had been overworked her brain. It was kinda cute. She didn't move. "Ivory?"  I leaned in a bit. "Ivor-!" "AH HA!!!" She stood up, knocking me over in her jump. " Ow…what's goin' on?" Ivory looked down at me. "Maybe I'm almost there!"  She looked excited, almost like she was vibrating she was jumping up and down so fast.
"Almost there? What?" I asked. Ivory turned to face me again. "Maybe I've almost cried enough! I mean when I first got here everyone could…" Her voice drifted off somewhere. 'Almost there? Like she'll go back to heaven and I'll never see her again?'
"Ivory?" I said in a dead whisper. She turned away from her sparkling dream and came back to this boring reality. Ivory's excited face turned almost sorrowful, her every color eyes turned a deep blue. "I'm sorry Rell. I don't want to leave you but please understand I'm dead. I'm not even supposed to exist on this plain." She put her head up a little. :Just because I wasted my life in stupid fights does not mean I'll let you waste yours on their participant." She let a sorry smile spread across her face.
I did my best to plaster a smile on my face. "It's okay I get it Ivory, its okay." But as those untruthful words left my lips, tears poured down my face. Ivory's  face almost twisted in horror in lieu of my tears. "Maybe it's best if I left. You know find a new town to haunt." She let out a sad snicker as her eyes got further and further away. I wiped my face. "No Ivory. I'm not telling you to go away,  in fact I'm dreading your departure, that's all." I let a chuckle leave my lips as my face turned the lightest shade of pink.
She stood up. "Well if you're gonna cry about it maybe I shouldn't leave. Ivory turned her head and her sparkling eyes looked down at me as a broad smile spread across her face.
I sat there dumbfounded. 'Is she serious? Would she really not go to heaven for me?' "No." I looked up, she was staring at me. "I'm not saying that I'm not going to heaven someday. I'm just proposing that I stay on earth as long as you're alive."
My eyes grew wide. I had so many questions racing through my mind, like how she'd heard my thoughts and what she meant by as long as I'm alive. "Because I'm an 'angel.'"  She put her fingers up in quotations. "And because I want you to stay happy. In fact I don't age unless I want to. I've been stuck in this town for about 40 years." All of my thoughts halted. '40 years?! That's crazy!' "Believe me if you want to but I'm around 57 years old." She stated matter-of-factly.
This puzzled my mind and my brain may as well have died. '57?! She doesn't look a day over 15!'  Ivory looked away but had a happy smile on her face. I looked at her questionably. "Did you hear that?" She nodded. "Have you heard every one of my thoughts until now?" She nodded again. I practically slapped  myself across the face to hide my blush. "R-Really?" She nodded one more time.
"Rell, your thoughts are very flattering if not a tad perverse." Ivory giggled a lighthearted chuckle. That was it my face turned supernova and I ran into the run down house. "Rell? Reeeeeeeeeeell???" I heard her calling after me, her melodious voice resonating to my very soul aching it to it's core. "RELL!!!!!!!" I stopped. My feet wouldn't listen to me yelling at them to move. Stillness. I couldn't feel much at all. I turned my head around and saw her still running after me. "Ivory." I called to her when she was close enough to hear me. Ivory was panting heavily, her white skin a pale rose color. "Rell, I was joking, I'm flattered. You just make it too easy to tease you." Her following laugh was hollow because of the fatigue from running after me.
I pulled her down onto the dank floor with me and put her head in my lap. She was still panting vigorously. Ivory looked up at me. "Just rest now, you'll feel better." She announced the words in my head before I could. I laughed. "You got it."
It took her a minute but she fell asleep leaving me sitting on my legs, her in my, lap, and too many thoughts rushing through my head. Most of them were 'What should I do? I have Ivory asleep in my lap!!!' and 'What if I do something and she slaps me and leaves?!' "It's alright." Ivory's silky voice appeared in my head. I took it as a sign, but 'What the hell should I do?'  At the end of the five minutes it took me to brainstorm I ended up just brushing my fingers through her hair, and blushing while doing it. "That actually feels kind of nice." Her voice again. I wasn't really sure if it was Ivory putting those words in my head of if it was my overwhelming imagination making it all up but I was alone with Ivory, that's all that mattered to me.
Sunset, sunrise. It was now Sunday morning. We had fallen asleep on the linoleum floor of the beaten up house's kitchen. I knew that I had to leave again but my heart told me not to. I got an idea.
"Goodbye Rell. I'll see you next week." Ivory said with a sad smile. I grabbed her hand. "Ivory come with me." I pleaded. Ivory cocked her head. "What?" She looked completely dumbfounded. I repeated my request. "Come with me Ivory. You said yourself that not too many people can see you. My dad won't even know your there. Please?" I still had hold of her hand.
Ivory looked at me with conflicting eyes. "I don't know Rell. I'm not sure what to say to that." I stared with pleading eyes. "Say yes then." Pause…'Wow that line wasn't cliqued at all.' I went back to staring at her face. Ivory's lips upturned in to a cute little smile. " Rell, your thoughts are very funny." Ivory giggled her angelic laugh. But soon her face turned into her still beautiful sorrowful smile.
"I'm sorry Rell. I can't go with you." She sighed. "I think God put me in this town for a reason, but I'm not sure what it is yet. So I can't leave just yet." My eyes started to tear up. I put my head down to shield that pathetic fact. "That's fine Ivory. I'll see you next week."
"Rell." She called, her hand reached out to grab me but I just shrugged her off, got on my bike, and drove.
'Heh. This feels familiar doesn't it?'
