Birthday gift for (because tomorrow I will be really busy to make her a gift. Happy early birthday dear!)It has been a while since the last time I drew something from my favorite crossover (BloodC/YuGiOh) and because my dear friend always commented to my crossover and honored it so much I wanted to dedicate this to her,
This is technically the first time I draw a night scene and one of the few times I draw profiles so I hope you liked it dear...
In this point Yami (aka Saya) is in SIRRUT headquarters but despite the fact they seem nice, Yami keeps on being on guard
with them, not trusting anyone and he is still mourning after everything that happened so many months ago.
He doesn't even trust to rest and sleep so even if he is given a very comfortable Japanese-style room to sleep, he doesn't even open
his futon and preferes to sleep with the back against the wall with his sword but even then he doesn't want to sleep.
In this picture Yami tries to fight back the urge to sleep but eventually he does sleep (and soon nightmares follow with Alex and Mai and Seto and everyone he had met when he was captured and forced into a fake life)
Please forgive me if this doesn't look so good. Like I said it is one of the few times I tried to color and shade a night scene like this and I wanted it to be as realistic as possible. And hey you know what? I think I have started becoming better with my two nemesis!;

I know. Profiles in anime can be tricky, especially to chins and lips. In Yami's case it is also tricky of how to draw the golden bangs (especially the front ones). Indeed night scenes too get tricky because of the light. Here I did the best I could with the colors I had.
I am so glad you liked the sword. I don't do well with swords and hands but I think I might be starting to get a grip with them. I am also glad the rice-paper window behind Yami turned pretty good with the few colors of blue I had in my pensilcase...

"Don't fall asleep...don't fall...asleep...don't...fall...asleep...don't..." and sleeps!
In the movie, Saya lifts her head a couple of times to fight sleep back before falling asleep. Here is the moment Yami tries to fight back the first wave of sleep and his eyes start to close but he fights back to keep them open.

Right, because if you don't do the chin right I feel like the lips won't be right. At least that is what it is like for me. I think the reason you are getting better is because you have been drawing them alot. I'm not surprised that he was fighting back the urge, because after all Yami is a strong character.

Yes. Someone need to be careful. Perhaps the best way to draw the anime profiles is to start from the forehead, go down to the hose and then lips and perhaps after you draw the ear to locate where the chin starts, start the other way round
or something like that...

Well it is not the strength of character that matters here. It is just after everything that happened with him being captured, his memories be re-written and being forced to be the "protagonist" of that tragical farse, then see an entire village be slaughtered by man-eating monsters and later on the subject of his hatred escaped and wounded him, Yami doesn't trust anyone now, not even the kind girl that helped him (Anzu) or anyone else and he doesn't trust them even at night.
Wants to be on guard just in case they would...capture him again but in the end he was just too hurt emotionally and he acted exessively cautious even against those who wanted to be his friends truly

That is a great idea, because is just about the way in which I do it. I usually start with the eyes of a character I am drawing, but in a situation like that it is harder for me to do that, so I sometimes start at the forehead.

It's as if he is not only trying to stay awake to not just be a guard and not get captured, but also so that he doesn't fall asleep and have to remember all of the bad things that have happened to him like you mentioned.

If you start from the above you can locate the head better and if that's so you can probably determine easier where the neck goes and where the eyes and stuff. I think it is better that way.
He DOES fall asleep. Even if he tries to fight it back he is so tired he falls asleep however he then has a nightmare of what happened in the past to him, of how they tricked him in Ukishima and how they humiliated him in a way but also put him through that great range of emotions, they made him whitness a no-less-than horrible massacre of an entire town
and the cherry on top was that he got shot in the eye and it took him some time to heal from that.

True and lots of artist I know tend to start from the top of a character and work their way down.
I see and probably after that he tried really hard not to fall asleep again in fear of having though nightmares again. If you are shot there I can see why it would take time to heal.

Well yes. But mainly for the reason I told you; he remains on guard because he doesn't trust anyone and he's afraid someone might capture him once more in his sleep.

He wasn't willing at first but in the end he saw that not all people desire to capture and use him and that there are people who would accept him for what he is even if he is not human

Oh don't worry , maybe she changed the settings , maybe she changed on ''Invisible'' . Why I say this? Because when I changed on that mode, it was show that I wasn't on from a month or 2 , I know because someone asked me why I'm not on. So that is the problem I think
