Description I cannot explain how much I adore this picture.

This wasn't an organized shoot, this wasn't planned. Actually, I took these pictures just for me and only now have decided to share it with others. We were sitting around on a Saturday, reading the paper and playing with a camera. It doesn't get any more natural than this.

^arachnid15 has modeled for me before, you've seen him in my work. But this is different. This is not a character. This is not a persona used to tell a story. This is Steven Perry. This is the man that I see on a daily basis. I think this portrait captures a lot of who he really is.

A man lost in his thoughts....

Sometimes it is the most simple, honest portraits [like this one] that most catch the eye.

I wish I had more people around me so that I could work on taking portraits. We just moved a few months ago and I'm a home-body. I don't get out much, but that's my fault. ... Anyway, beautiful portrait

Katerina423 In reply to GrayGlow [2008-07-07 07:18:10 +0000 UTC]

I am the EXACT same way. I've become a complete home-body and that really makes portraits quite difficult. I'm also trying to get better about just keeping a camera on me at all times so when I AM around people, I can take shots like this. For this, I got lucky... my fiance and I were sitting around reading the newspaper.. and he just got thoughtful, and I clicked the shutter.
Here's to both of us getting out more so we can indulge in our hobbies and other people

I'll drink to that!
All I've had to use for the last year (which is when I discovered the passion beneath the appreciation I've always had for photography.) has been myself or some random objects laying around my house. It's all a direct result of my being a home-body, and an army wife on top of all that. I'm not very good; I have a long way to go before I feel I can even call myself a photographer and not feel silly! But I'm learning. Practice practice practice!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Katerina423 In reply to GrayGlow [2008-07-07 07:30:11 +0000 UTC]

You wanna hear something funny? I STILL can't call myself a photographer without feeling silly I honestly don't think I shoot enough to qualify! I still shoot mostly myself and whatever I have in the house... but I'm trying to get better. I highly recommend Model Mayhem . It's an easy way to meet models without having to leave your house.. well, that is until it's time for you to get together with them for a shoot!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GrayGlow In reply to Katerina423 [2008-07-07 07:38:09 +0000 UTC]

Haha! Yeah, I definitely don't think I'm ready for models either!
At least I don't feel so akward, since you feel the same way about calling yourself a photographer.
May I ask you a question? How did you become a gallery director?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Katerina423 In reply to GrayGlow [2008-07-07 07:43:16 +0000 UTC]

Yea, definitely don't feel awkward about that.. I know more than a few that are the same way I think it has to do with a personal level of comfort more than anything else.

$Moonbeam13 is the director of Artist Relations on dA. In her journals [link] she posts openings in volunteer gallery director positions. I applied. I have an intense love, appreciation, and knowledge of the horror genre of art and so I she chose me as the horror/macabre photography GD. Being a GD helps me stay connected to the artistic community regardless of what real life throws my way and so I am here.. bringing you thrills, chills, and screams in the middle of the night

Haha! Thrills and chills My husband loves horror movies, so I've seen my fair share. I'm suprised I'm not sick of them all with the collection he has.

I don't think I could handle being a GD. It keeps you pretty busy doesn't it?

You two seem to share a very close bond, and not only is that seen through your statements, but your work as well.

I am drawn to this, because it seems to depict just what you said. A man lost in thought. It's thought, and the mind which makes us who we are. I can imagine as though I were sitting in a room with him, staring at him and wondering just what he would be thinking. And I know that I would be too; I'm always somehow drawn to the thinking sort.

Such a beautiful expressive photograph with no feeling of 'ose for me' at all.

This is intense...almost as intense as arachnid but in a different package of passion.. He appears pensive and reminiscent..technically, I love the play of the curtain and hat with the shadows and sunlight..

Thank you so much, Shell

Arachnid is definitely a very intense personality and I adore that about him. Very few boring moments around our house I adore this picture of him so much because it captures that... the way he is on a regular basis.

Again, I'm so glad you like you.. thank you sweetie

Beautiful picture. It really has a relaxed feel to it. It shows allot of character.
i love the background and the lighting is gorgeous. Is it natural from a window? It's great to see behind the characters and the make up. It looks like you've captured the real person. I only say looks like, because I'm not in the position to know.

Well done.

Yup.. that's purely the light coming in through a window. I know I always enjoy seeing a simply captured portrait of people whose work I enjoy, so I figured you'd enjoy a glance at Steven Perry This is purely him.. on a Saturday morning reading the paper

I'm glad you enjoyed this.. thank you so very much
