Backstory:
Ian has never really had trouble making friends, generally getting along with anyone that will have him around. He's always been the class clown and does his best to make everyone feel happy with him. During a semester in school he ended up getting confessed to by a girl in his class and he was instantly in love with her, they went everywhere together! However great the relationship was or how serious he was didn't seem to matter in the end because as he was heading back to one of his classes he found his girlfriend cheating on him with another classmate of his. He was shocked , they had been dating for 2 years at this point and he really didn't know how to take this, when he wanted an answer as to why she gave him none. His heart was broken, he really did love her and thought this feeling would last , that his love would last.
However angry or upset he was he kept it inside , he didn't want to be a downer to others so he kept it close to himself and not telling anyone how hard he actually took it. This relationship left a lasting distrust of people saying they loved him and he hasn't dated anyone sense then. He doesn't NOT want to date he just doesn't know what to do.
During his time getting over this he graduated and decided to dedicated his life to being a Pokemon trainer. He felt a certain sense of pride in battling and he knows that his Pokemon do actually care about him and that's all he could ask for.
