It is, of course, Sherlock Holmes performing a chemical experiment.

Wah wah. I thought you drew this at first and I was thinking "OKAY THIS IS NOT HER STYLE. That was.....a strange transition." XDDDD I usually know a piece's artist just by looking at the thumbnail, I don't usually look at the artist listed beneath.....

It largely depends on which version of Paget's Holmes you refer to, and which pic. He was a bit inconsistant. XD This is one of the ones I like. XD
