Byatis is a terrible predatory great old one who was imprisoned, possibly by the ELDER THINGS, in what would become Britain, in a cave where he would remain til the Romans conquered it and a small battalion freed the monster which devoured its liberators. Byatis roamed the lonely places of the world devouring man and beast alike until, through ways unknown, was captured by a mad French nobleman in 1738, and was kept in the large dungeon under his estate and released every night to terrorize the villagers near him, until the creature became to wild and devoured his "master" and escaped into the sea where he became one of the soldiers of mighty and terrible CTHULU.
