Drew this quite a while ago, only just got round to scanning it. At the time I was looking into fables and fairytales, Brothers Grimm, mythologies etc. The title is from the saying: 'Better a wolf in the fold, than a fine february'Doesn't fit it totally, but it'll do (I'm awful at titles.) I didn't use a ref drawing this (kind of shows) but I was going for that big bad wolf vibe, epitome of evil and cunning, hence the long muzzle and pointy ears.

Woah, I LOVE the fur detail and the shading/tonal range here o.O I think your attempts at creating a traditional "fairytale wolf" worked perfectly, the style looks just like something one might expect to find in an old children's book.

I've been through a bit of a anti-dA / weird art block thing for 6 months or so and I'm only just breaking out of it, so I'm sorry if there's a random influx of replies! Eugh, I know EXACTLY what you mean :C I haven't even been around dA this past year, I slowly lost all motivation for it and now I have a huge backlog of everything to get through XD Not to mention a tonne of art that's been lying around unfinished forever. Trying to climb out of a slump is so difficult and I don't know why, haha.

Yeah that's what I was going for, a semi cross of the Hound of the Baskervilles and the Beast of Bodmin, that sort of vibe XD I'm surprised you've heard of it!

I love those tales! You should see my drawings of it... I had a crazed hellhound like beast as well as a misunderstood giant creature one.
