an au where knight neji was sent by the king to slay the dragon that had settled into one of the abandoned stronghold at the edge of the kingdom. it was a journey that took weeks and once he arrived, he didn’t even find any dragon. what even more irritating was that he had to rescue a girl from a swamp nearby and she’d somehow twisted both her ankles, which meant that he had to carry her until he could get to his horse. after a tearful story full of tragedies and abandonment issues and an impressive amount of guilt-tripping, he found himself grudgingly agreeing to bring the girl back to the capitol.
only to fall in love with her during the course of the journey because she’s lively and impetuous and a pain in the ass, everything that neji wasn’t.
and then of course he found out that she’s the dragon.
