Description This mold isn't looked on fondly by most collectors, and I can understand why. I felt compelled to do what I could to improve my Ratchet. First priority was stripping off the painted-on windows in the back, since ambulances don't have windows there anyway. I soaked the parts in rubbing alcohol and then scraped the paint off. Much better.

All Hail Silver Sharpies! ...and paint and gold markers. And a traditional sharpie to give the gunbarrels their scorchmarks. I'm especially proud of how that detail turned out. I just wish I could match up some paint to that shade of red to give Ratchet his head helmet. I've always preferred him with the red helmet.

I really like how the chest piece under the rear window came out. I had to partially disassemble him to get to it, but it was so worth it. And if you'll look closely, I also painted the windshield wiper while I had the rear window out.

The mold is a bit too... complicated, and doesn't transform all that well. It's also very flimsy because of it. If you'll notice, the robot mode head doesn't even come up all the way. The lackluster colors just compound the issue.

Sounds pretty shoddy, I hadn't even noticed the head didn't come up all the way...guess it's no wonder people didn't like it.

I've heard alot of good things about the TFAnimated deluxe Ratchet, but always pass on it since I really didn't like his character. Is the toy actually that good?

Animated and Classics, despite both having the Transformers taglines, are very different beasts. The Animated just have this sense of... simple fun around them that the Classics lack. They're like "real" toys. And while not perfect, I love my Animated Ratchet figure. The absurdly oversized tools just add to his fun.

I think alot of it has to do with the stylized look the Animated line has...well, that, and alot of them have more articulation than even the some figures in the Universe line (I'm looking at you, Vector Prime).

I may have to hunt down Ratchet....after I pick up Soundwave (and his repaint coming out in a couple months).

True, the stylization lent to a surprising quality in the toy designs. I'm still not crazy of the look of the show, but the toys have been phenomenal.

Yeah, I was really unsure of the show because of the style, for a good while I avoided it...then I actually watched it and loved it. The style does lend itself well to the toys though.

I *think* I saw a Ratchet at Target a while back...I'd kill to have a Wreck-gar though xD

Wreck-Gar is... not that great. He's a must have if you're a Weird Al fan or a Junkion fan, but the toy itself is very lackluster. His arms are floppy and you can't really pose him in anything other than the standing position or else he'll fall over due to the weight on his back.

There's no way to just remove the screws and just set it back without them? Some things don't exactly require the screws to hold them in place, so long as you don't drop it or something.

I was tempted to get this model as I had never had a Ratchet but was underwhelmed upon holding the blisterpack in my hand.

I do have TFA Ratchet in the Activator-class (it came with Voyager Sunstorm).

I have both Classics and the Deluxe Animated Ratchet. Have to say I prefer the Animated version.
