Description

The G36 is a 5.56mm assault rifle that uses a combination of then-revolutionary polymer materials and metal and a integrated 3x optic-unmagnified reflex sight combo as standard in place of iron sights. It entered service in the Bundeswehr in 1995 and saw widespread use starting from 1997, to be replaced by a variant of the HK 416 designated as the G95 A1 starting in 2024.

Variants include the shorter G36K carbine and the compact G36C rifle.
