cool, good job so far!
my first tip is this: when coloring, or even shading with just black and white you want to use 3(sometimes 4) color ranges: light, medium, dark(the 4th is super light which is usually small areas of straight white)
you've got a good start having done most of the piece with middle values. you started it a little but i'd like to see you go through and really push the light values and the dark values to build up the volume of the shapes and forms
(sub-tip: when going lighter or darker there's sometimes a resistance or hesitance where you feel like your going to extreme, every artist goes through this, but you actually need to force yourself to go further with the value, so whatever value you choose, push it a little farther, it will make a huge difference in the end!)

i agree with you 100%, in my mind the darkness should be dark. he may do good things now and then but he's not a good guy!
