Description The Horror Frost.

Hidden beneath the frozen tundras and permafrost deposits of the arctic lurks a creature no larger than the smallest of plankton. This minuscule creature seeks out the rotting, and consequently, frozen remains of any local wildlife lost beneath the topsoil.

Upon finding a suitable host the creature will then burrow into whatever brain tissue remains, and re-animate the corpse for its own purposes. The now risen vessel is reborn with an insatiable hunger for organic matter, rotting or otherwise, and will set off on its endless hunt immediately.

Over time the body will bloat and swell, the original appendages shriveling away, or oftentimes falling off to give way for large flipper like limbs more adept at the crawling/burrowing nature of the parasite, eventually taking on the upscaled, albeit more grotesque appearance of said parasite (silhouette on the left.)

The hunting effectiveness of the Horror-Frost is directly dependent on the condition of the host corpse upon re-animation. For example: a host body with missing or deteriorated eyes will have some issues with navigation. Also interesting is the effective on the Horror-Frost regarding residual brain-tissue, when substantial amounts remain some Horror-Frosts have been seen attempting to rejoin the herd/colony/species from its former life.

As rotting flesh isn't always in ample supply, the Horror-Frost are equipped with a back-up diet to prevent starvation. By plowing up large mouthfuls of the tundras and consequently swallowing them they are able to process bacteria found in wood particles, insects, worms and whatever else happened to be within. Typically a fledgling Horror-Frost will consume large amounts of the surrounding permafrost during its' initial unearthing, giving them the appearance of animated dirt.

Loyal only to themselves a Horror-Frost won't hesitate to make a meal from its own kind. With the ability to grow to whale like sizes these confrontations typically favor the larger abomination.
