Not a fan of Sailor Moon, but lately it has become interesting for me to try to draw characters from childhood in the style of the classic anime of the 90s. It's really a lot of fun to draw, although it's not easy for me.I also watched a sufficient number of Sailor Moon Crystal episodes and I will say one thing for sure - the design of the 90s is simply magnificent. Characters look much nicer than in Crystal.
Although I was interested to see the new version of Sailor Moon, but the desing and the absence of this type of humor, as in the original, upset me.
No, I'm not saying what's better and what's worse. Each version has its advantages. I just want to pay attention to the character design and the rest of the artistic component of these two versions.

When Sailor Moon "rebooted" with the new manga and anime that were supposed to be truer to the creator's original vision -- it became painfully obvious to me that he had benefited enormously from editorial input. The new stuff is unwatchable in my opinion; the lines are cleaner but... everything else is a loss.
And in English speaking countries, Andy Heyward's "Sailor Moon Theme," made the show probably about 200% better by letting you know just how cheesy what you were about to see was: if you know it's going to be silly, you're in the right mindset. The new stuff is like: Wow; you (the producers) obviously have no idea how dumb this is. When you're making light, fluffly crap, you need to have a certain amount of self-awareness.
