So beautiful. If I decide to do this bird species for an art project, may I use this pic as a reference if I link to your page?

Yes, you can use this image as long as the use remains non-commerical.

Wow, with a 500mm plus a 1.4x, and onyl 1/25.... this is a surprisingly sharp photo! Great catch!

It surprised me too...I didn't think I could pull it off as I worked to view the bird through a tiny window in the forest.

The colors and beak shape and the eye mask made me think of our scrub jays here... but I read up, and I guess they are not that closely related.

I can see what you mean, but no...they aren't closely related. The motmots are actually close to the kingfishers!

Ah...That makes sense. The motmot colors do remind me of kingfishers.

I love motmots!! Did you get to see/hear any chachalacas?

Not in Trinidad (although they are there)...but in Costa Rica there were dozens of Gray-headed Chachalaca calling and feeding at Rancho Naturalista. It was really fun to see a few tentatively enter the feeding area and then the entire flock would run and fly in...what a sight!

Ohhh but the grey-headed chachalaca doesn't sing like a crazybird! I've been working on a fossil chachalaca. I've seen some cracids in captivity, but... I neeeeeed to see a chachalalca in the wild.

That's a scary slow shutter speed! I wish the standard kingfishers here in Hungary would sit as still. Normally they're a lightning-blue streak above the water.
Nice capture.
