This is gorgeous! I love the colors, and the detail. The concept is really cool. The little fairy-lights are particularly awesome. Because I am really bad at terminology, what is a "matte" painting? I'd love to get this level of detail in my work. Great job!

Thank you so much for your comment!
Matte painting is a photomanipulation technique used by almost every concept artist in videogames or movies. You should obviously star with an idea of what you want to do, then search a lot on the internet for high resolution images that could fit for your project. For example, I've used 5/6 different pictures to build the valley (I've mixed snow mountains with hills and flowers you see in the foreground), for the crack on the moon I've created a shape of what I wanted the crack look like and pasted inside many textures from rocks and mountains. I've added a lot of details to the moon to make it more realistic, like dust or scars and obviously shadows and lights (watch this link: www.facebook.com/jolietgallery… ). After that I've added the colours on separate layers using different brushs, and set it on overlay/color/multiply.

Aaahh, so it's like when you use images to create texture on a 3D model? Intriguing. I don't think I've ever heard of that term before, but it might be fun to try. In any case, this came together quite fantastically. You are very welcome, and well done!
