PROLOGUE:
This is the tale of a boy called Dain Raven.
Dain had lived a normal life in his home town of Keras, with his brother, Khai, and young parents, Savi and Meraida, up to when he was 4 and Khai was 2.
Dain hadn’t really seen anything but his mother came into his room one morning, hugged him and Khai tightly and whispered that she loved them both and would never forget them then someone shouted her name and she left.
Dain went out into the kitchen to see two men; one of them was his father and the other was an older man.
“Daddy? Where mum go?” he asked.
Savi looked at the visitor who nodded then he kneeled down in front of his son.
“She’s gone away for a while, my lad, but don’t fret I’m still here and I’ll take care of you”.
And he did for a while but not in a kind, gentle, loving way like when Meraida still lived their.
He trained Dain in the ways of fighting taught him to not show emotion but Dain trusted his father and never judged his word.
He started drinking and doing drugs when he was young and at his school he was known as the bad boy, his life was going down hill but he didn’t give it a second thought.

~Chapter 1- The Truth

One day Khai and his rich best friend, Rome Leah where poking around at Khai’s house in his dad’s study area when Khai found a letter. It read:
Please send me back.
It is a hard life here.
I know it’s not your fault.
I miss my boys.
Send Khai and Dain my love.
Love, Meraida.

‘Mum hadn’t wanted to go then’ Khai thought remembering what Dain had told him, ‘and she knew about the way dad treats us’.
In truth, Savi had treated them like soldiers, well Dain anyway.
Savi used to give him lessons on sword fighting and brought him up to be the bitter person he almost always was.
While he used Khai as a way to give Dain the curse of jealousy and envy.
‘How could this be’, thought Khai, ‘Dad said that mum ran away, but-’ at that very moment Savi, Khai’s father had come up behind him and struck him unconscious. Khai fell to the ground. As Savi made a move to do the same to Rome, Rome stuck his leg out, tripping Savi over and sending him unconscious as well then he ran.
When Dain came running down the study stairs he was shocked to find his brother on the ground and his father slumped against the wall. “Khai is …is dead. It was… it was Rome” Savi said in a weak voice and faked a faint. Dain put a hand on the desk to steady himself. He raised it and looked at his hand as a trickle of blood ran down his finger to his palm. Dain clenched his fist angrily and sprinted to where he knew Rome would be; Rome and Kai’s tree house by the river.
