Description 1972 Parnelli Indy car. Designed by Maurice Phillipe whose latest race design was the Lotus 72. These race cars were originally presented with the mid dihedral wings. Visually sort of pleasant enough. The problem was they really never worked. A conventional rear wing was added and the cars were tested this way. Eventually the dihedral wings were abandoned and the cars raced with the super wide rear wings that were allowed in USAC in 1972 and 1973. I remember the first photos we saw of this design in early 1972 when I was a Junior in High School. It seemed really cool, but alas, no real success. The cars were driven by Mario Andretti, Joe Leonard, and Al Unser. Β Colored Pencils on Strathmore Mixed Media thick paper and is about 12 by 18 inches.

Very cool. Such a different look. The detail in the engine is fantastic. The shine is so realistic. Damn man you are good.

I know, weren't they something. I saw a photo in the spring before practice in 1972 even stated and it seemed so cool. By the time we saw the cars qualifying Β on Wide World of Sports the dihedrals had been removed and they had a conventional rear wing.Β
Thanks for the faves. Nice hearing from you !
