Description
Okay... This simple sketch sums up what I have been mostly concerned and doing with my free time during the autumn of 2018. Fixing a leaking gasoline problem with my Ford Truck.
At first I tried patching the leaking spot. (3 times with 2 different patches!) But no matter what, You just can not patch a Polythene gas tank. Gasoline is very acidic. Which means it can eat away at anything over time. And the pressure in the tank causes the gas to squirt out. No patch can hold back constant pressure.
Then I tried to find a replacement gasoline tank. Turns out no company creates after market gas tanks for my truck anymore! So I go to the closest junk yard I can get to. Said junk yard does have Gasoline tanks...With holes! The Junk men drill holes into gas tanks to let the gas out. Io them it's much easier to drill holes than to siphon out gasoline. bad luck for me.
So next I order a gas tank online. I know said gas tank does not fit my truck, So I also purchased a 10 pound sledgehammer from Home Depot and Slammed the metal thing into shape! I damn well made it fit under my truck now!
Next I found out the fuel pump meant for that tank does not work for my truck. Because the tank was not meant for my truck. So I ordered a different fuel pump and modified it to fit in the tank.
Lastly, I had to purchase a new filler neck to reach where the tank's gas input is at.
During this whole project, I had to wait weeks at a time to have either my father or two brothers to make time for me. Because working on an automobile is a two man task for Novice mechanics. (The novice mechanics being me, my dad, and my two brothers.)
...All of this has been going on for about 3 months now. As I am typing this Deviation Description, I just about got my truck working in Normal condition now. Just gotta make time in repositioning the filler neck to the gas tank.
