HOW did River not get conceived in the normal universe?

Mylittledragonturtle [2015-07-02 05:15:28 +0000 UTC]

Me: DOCTOR, WHAT'S THE ANSWER TO THE UNIVERSE? WHAT IS CONSCIOUSNESS? IS CHUCK GOD? IS THERE AN ALTERNATE UNIVERSE WHERE SHERLOCK HOLMES EXISTS? WHAT ABOUT HARRY POTTER? SO, IF A HUMAN GOES INTO THE FUTURE, AND COME BACK TO THE TIME YOU STARTED AT YOU WOULD HAVE GONE TO THE FUTURE IN THE PAST SO WOULD YOU THEREFORE BE MUCH OLDER? I WONDER WHAT I'M LIKE IN AN ALTERNATE UNIVERSE? IS THERE AN ALTERNATE UNIVERSE WHERE THE CHARACTERS FROM SUPERNATURAL ARE REAL? IF THERE IS, THEN THERE MUST BE THE SUPERNATURAL BOOKS THERE TOO! CAN I BUY THEM? I'VE ALWAYS WONDERED ABOUT ALTERNATE UNIVERSES. CAN YOU TRAVEL TO A TIME WHERE THE FUTURE YOU TRAVELED TO THE PAST YOU AND GOT INTO THE FUTURE YOU'S TARDIS AND TRAVEL TO THAT EXACT SAME MOMENT AGAIN? IF YOU KNEW THAT THE FUTURE YOU WAS GOING TO SAVE A PLANET FROM EXPLODING, BUT YOU DIED (for real, no regeneration) BEFORE YOU SAVED IT, WOULD YOUR FUTURE SELF EVEN EXIST? IF YOU ATE A SILENCE WOULD YOU REMEMBER THEM OR FORGET THEM? SO, HAS ARTHUR RETURNED TO MERLIN YET? HOW LONG TO WARLOCKS LIVE ANYWAY? HAVE YOU-

At this point I'd probably be thrown into a black hole.

I gave up on trying to understand Doctor Who a long time ago. My line is, "it's Doctor Who, it's not supposed to make sense!" Trying to make sense of it all just makes my head hurt. Besides, the total nonsense of the show is part of what makes it fun!

Sometimes the fans needs the vertian writers from the classics, unfortunately they're above our heads...

HOW DID RORY STOP BEING PLASTIC?

greytawnyowl [2011-10-30 12:42:44 +0000 UTC]

I don't get the question about River, her existence doesn't make less sense than other people's existence in two different universes.

Well the way I see it in the first universe Rory is dead/an auton, and also in any case it ended before anything could happen, there was no future for River to be conceived in. She was only conceived in the second universe, as a direct result of the first one being destroyed.

Why wouldn't she be able to exist/travel in different universe like The Doctor and his companions, though? It was stated that she was a complicated time event, we could assume that she doesn't quite follow the rules of normal linear people.

It makes sense in the show's logic, not with real life concepts of course.

PPHHHHHHHH I do this. XD
I have a feeling half the companions WANT to do this, but they know there would be no point. XDDD

I think the regeneration-disabled thing was just a feature of the particular poison. O_o Idk. I made up a disease that did that once...

haha

Yeah you're right about the poison. I made a comic about how annoying pointing out plot holes is and everyone is pointing out plot holes in it!

Yep yep. People who point out plot holes are insufferable, and I am one of them

They did briefy explain it. The scene when the Doctor is in the Tardis talking to a voice interface and it ends up being Amelia, he says after some banter "So you're saying regenerate?" and then Amelia said something snarkey about him not being able to regenerate because of the poision had some special power or something. It was said I just can't remember it word for word.
Doctor Who is a very confusing and detail focused show so it's important to pay attention.

Oh okay, I suppose that adds up seeing as it is a poison designed to kill him. I usually do pay attention, I'm surprised I missed that. Thank you!

EXACTLY. It's about time they started explaining things properly, I didn't get the half of that episode And excellent artwork and very well done too!

Thank you!
I just never really liked the whole River Song thing in general. I think they chose the wrong actress, and they haven't really known each other long enough for the romance to ring true to me.

Yeah it seems like they would have explained why his regenerations were disabled. I hope it's part of a story arc and not just a convenient plot device!

fourth-heir In reply to joe-wright [2011-08-30 21:53:58 +0000 UTC]

It seems pretty obvious that an assassin would use a poison that overcame the ability to regenerate if she was going to kill somebody who had that ability surely? A plot point so self-evident it needed no explanation really.
