Description sfsfdggfbhgmyd I'm still super proud of this one. My 8k thank you image for Discord Whooves.
There's a lot going on in this. The Doctor's Shadow, the hourglass fading and dumping out the sand, Discord, the popping bubbles... Really really proud of this.
And now I can finally show the full size of it here.

I'd like to set the record straight on the behind the scenes story on Colin Baker's Doctor era. It was, by no means, his fault that his run was so bad. It was all the writing, the crappy, crappy writing. Not only that but there was an ongoing plan by one of the heads of the BBC who hated all sci-fi and wanted to put the show under by getting the ratings to drop so they'd HAVE to cancel it. Colin Baker did the best he can with a lousy script and got all the blame for it and if that wasn't bad enough his boss slept with his now ex-wife and fired him on a whim, poor guy. By the time Sylvester McCoy rolled around the figures were already VERY low and his first season went terribly, it didn't improve until his next two seasons which are some of the best but by then no one was watching and the show had to get cancelled. The 80's over all was a bad time for Doctor Who for the most part.
No person who has ever portrayed the Doctor did a bad job, they were all top notch and most all of the ones that were terrible in terms of how the Doctor acted was the script, or terribly concept, or something of the sort. While there probably were a few bad moments all of the actors to play the Doctor have done a great job and to the best of their abilities.

Because in that particular story he's number 12 and that's the screwdriver he has.
Also Matt Smith is a WONDERFUL Doctor.

He's no David Tennant. I fact, I think Doctor Whooves is more based on him than Matt Smith. I mean, look at his screwdriver in DW&A episode 1. Plus, I think both Doctors in DW&A and DWA both have characteristics of David Tennant that the other doesn't, which is one reason I thought Wrong Way Backwards from both stories were BRILLIANT!

I'm going to ask a couple questions. You recognize there are 9 additional Doctors before him with individual performances and personalities, correct? Would it also be safe to say you prefer the actors over the actual show which defeats the purpose of being a fan?

GriffinriderStampede In reply to Jestre-DeRama [2013-07-11 00:46:18 +0000 UTC]

I still like the show. Though personally, I think Stephen Moffet is an idiot. And to be completely honest, my favorite Doctor is Tom Baker. David Tennant comes a close 2nd. And even in spite of how terrible he was as the Doctor, I even watched all of Colin Baker's episodes. For me, the ultimate team would be the Tom Baker Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith, and K9. I am a fan of the show. Am I not allowed to favor some actors over others?

You can favor whomever even though they're all the Doctor. Your initial response just made you out to be a die-hard New-Who Tennant fan. My next question would be, have you seen 1-3, 5, and 7-9's contributions through both BBC and heard audioplays on Big Finish for the living and participating Doctors?

DWnA has the 10ths for reasons I can't disclose.
This Doctor here is not the same Doctor. He's from a different universe altogether, and regenerated from the 11th Doctor.
Also I find it rude to compare Smith to Tennant. Tennant was a good Doctor, sure, but to completely UNDERMINE Smith for what he's done is just not fair to him. I had a hard time warming up to him, but after a while he became my favorite because he is the most passionate and most 'human' the Doctor has ever been. And yet he's also the most dangerous. And he knows it.

DWA Doctor is AFTER 11 as well. He's number 12. They've stated this. He is NOT Tennant, and neither is DWnA's Doctor. They are BOTH their own Doctors with their own personalities.

And Doctor Whooves was not based on anything. He was just a random slapped together brown pony with a rehashed mane style that multiple stallions in the show have. People made the joke that he was a Time Lord because of his hourglass cutie mark, and fans themselves said "Lol he kind of looks like David Tennant actually."

I know I seem defensive of this but I'm really tired of everyone completely OBSESSING over 10th Doctor and not giving ANY other Doctor a flying FLIP despite how WONDERFUL they may be. 11 and 8 have become my FAVORITE Doctors and to be told Tennant is the best over and over and over gets on my nerves because I have a right to my own opinions and how I present my own Doctors.

I found Tennant to be fun and crazy, yeah, but he was also incredibly whiny about a lot of stuff. He was way too emotional at times and he left this really irritating impact on people where they insist the Doctor is non-violent. When in reality, it was only 10 who chose to be passive and hate guns. Many others have fired guns, killed, snapped necks, and done the unthinkable. 10 just happened to not like it. But people keep saying 10 defines the Doctor, when in actuality, over 40 years of the show running, he actually went against a lot of what the Doctor originally was.

Ok, I have to disagree with your last paragraph as I have sat through the show from episode 1 William Hartnell from 1963. The only time the Doctor actually tried to kill someone was in the first episode when he tried to kill a caveman with a rock. It was Ian that stopped him, and he's only warmed up to people in general since. The only exception to that is Colin Baker, but he was so bad, the BBC actually fired him, and the show went on hiatus. He wasn't even in his own regeneration scene. It was Sylvester McCoy in a blond wig. Tom Baker was put in a position to wipe out the daleks before they became a threat, but another opportunity came along, and he joyfully took it. Peter Davison was greatly saddened when all the human and silurians killed each other in that undersea base. "There should have been another way..." The only time Christopher Eccleston held some kind of gun was with the intent to kill a dalek, and Rose stopped him. Correct me if I'm wrong on any point or if I missed something. Quite honestly, I liked the bulk of all the doctors. I mean Jon Pertwee knew how to fight! And all hand to hand.

By the way, I never said it was Hasbro's intent to make Doctor Whooves. But the way his looked turned out is very Tennant. Brown coat like his first outfit and the dark brown mane in that style. For me, the hourglass cutie mark sealed the deal. That's the David Tennant Doctor in the same manner Twilight Sparkle became human in that movie. I'm not saying that's how you made the story. That's just how I see it. If I had a head canon at all, that would be it.

I don't mean to be rude at all. I love your show, and I think the singing in the Winter Wrap-Up setting was a really good touch. I had to laugh at how Hearth's Warming Eve came about. My heart sank when Derpy ran out of the TARDIS, being fed up with broken promises.

On a side note, I hope I'm talking to the voice of Derpy and I'm not making an idiot out of myself. Are you also nomorethan9 from youtube? Otherwise, you both sound freakishly alike.

JitterbugJive In reply to GriffinriderStampede [2013-07-11 02:38:19 +0000 UTC]

[link] Multiple times he's held guns or done violent things. Sure, he doesn't often fire guns, but he's not as much of a pacifist as 10th Doctor was. The only reason he acted that way was because it was a way to counter out his bitter war veteran personality on his 9th incarnation. He even said it himself that Rose taught him not to be that person.
Every Doctor is good in their own right for their own reasons, and I just feel it's absolutely not fair to say something as terrible as "Well he's no David Tennant." I can easily say "Well David Tennant is no Matt Smith." I don't know why you aren't able to see how insulting and undermining that comment came across.
People are all welcome to heave headcanons, and I am a fan of some people who intemperate him as the 10th, but I know for a fact that the actors who play him in both the audio series actually don't like being compared to Tennant at every turn because they are trying to play their own Doctor just as every other actor has done for the series. Sure, some traits from 10 may slip through, but that's just like how 10 made a lot of shout outs to 5 because Tennant LOVED the 5th Doctor.

The Doctor I wrote for Whooves and Assistant only really has one thing in common with Tennant specifically, and that's the way he says "Well" and "But". He says "Fantastic" a lot like 9. He quotes Tom Baker. He has 8ths ferocity when he goes to his darker side. The Doctor is always the Doctor, no matter what incarnation, he always has specific traits that stand out through all of his incarnations. Including the line "I'm sorry. I'm so very sorry." Ten went a little bit crazy with the line, but it's present in nearly every Doctor, including the Valeyard (He Jests at Scars)

Technically, the screwdriver my Doctor is using in DWnA is the 9th. But everyone calls it the 10th. That's another thing that bothers me, because 9 used that screwdriver first, so why does 10 take claim on something he had since the start of 9?

As for Derpy, I am BaldDumboRat/PierceSmoulder and also Jitterbug Jive. I've written for over 7 different variations of the Doctor with multiple headcanons and their own unique personalities.
I'm not sure who nomorethan9 is, because that's not me. But I do voice Derpy.

Ok, I stand corrected on him shooting the bad guys. I watched it over a long period and forgot a lot of it. But that could also explain the reason 10 was so adamant against using guns. He regrets it. Now I meant no harm in anything I was saying. I'll admit Matt Smith is decent. He's just not my favorite. Neither is David Tennant. As I said, Tom Baker is the MAN!

I'm still a huge fan of your series and wished you could've done the real voice for Derpy in The Last Roundup. It bothered me that Tabitha St. Germaine thought Derpy was male. I haven't seen anything past Wrong Way Backwards, mainly because the sound on my computer stopped working. But I'll be reactivating xbox live gold and will watch the youtube app on there. I tell you what, I laughed a bunch when you and "The Doctor" played Portal 2. A little constructive criticism though: your mic was up a bit too loud, especially when you were laughing. Heh, funny thing is, your mic was too loud and the Doctor's was too low. lol It was still fun to watch though.

Sorry. The fanboy in me just wouldn't stay quiet!

Well said. Tennant was my first real exposure to the show, but it wasn't until Smith that I actually started becoming a Whovian. They're both great in their own way, and I often have a hard time deciding which I like better. Nobody's really the best because none of them are the same. They all have their own strengths, weaknesses, and varying longevity. Most fans cling to the Doctor they saw first, but since first episodes I really watched were The Next Doctor and The End Of Time, I didn't entirely imprint on Tennant the way someone who'd been watching since The Christmas Invasion would have.
is right about one thing, tho: Wrong Way Backwards was brilliant.

I must say i think this is one of your best pieces. Every element of this picture is spectacular. The stars in the background are dazzling. The Bubbles actually looks like bubbles, something that seems hard to do. I adore the Discord/Hourglass in the background, feels like foreshadowing as the the actual shadow. Lol.

The detail in The Doctor and Ditzy is incredible. The highlights on the mane and tails are wonderful, I'll have to have a closer look so can learn from it. But its the eyes that sell this picture for me: I have tried many different techniques so I know how challenging they can be.

Overall I greatly am inspired by what you have done! Please don't stop drawing anytime soon.

I remember watching you LIVESTREAM this and I'll say the same thing; the detail you have on their manes and tails is honestly what impresses me the most...
It's not just a coloured and shaded lump (which is all I can do ), you actually have strands of hair highlighted throughout the manes and tails...
- then comes the detailing on the sand to make it look seriously realistic, instead of just sand-coloured dots floating through space And finally the hourglass fading to grey-ness and becoming "discorded"~ I love the connection as the colours change

The whole piece is brilliant~! I hope you continue drawing this blog for a while yet to come!
