Gandhi with a Guy Fawkes mask

Someone on the internet was like... it's "borderline offensive."

V for Vendetta/Guy Fawkes mask is now representative of the non-violent protest that is being promoted as a tactic for the Occupy Movement. Non violent protest was encouraged by Gandhi.

It's not associating some violent cartoon character's attributes to a non violent public figure.

People on the internet like to complain and police for no reason. That's some irritating bullshit. Thanks for noticing how well I captured Gandhi's likeness with only a few tones.

This isΒ  a wonderful piece. The combination of Ghandi and the Fawkes mask creates a dichotomy of resistive approaches. Have you produced a T-Shirt with this art. I would proudly wear it.

Ghandi set himself on fire as part of his protest.

If you have anything to prove that maybe he didn't? I heard it from a friend, so now I need another source to see who's right or wrong.

Gandhi was murdered, shot in the head by some assassin. They never caught the man. There are other people, though who did this. Yes, they did it in protest, and one should honor their act because it's probably the strongest way a person can stand in for his or her believe.

(Bonus:
Here are two rules for an succesfull life:
1. Read up on facts before talking, don't trust some school boys who wave around with their half-knowledge.
2. Don't judge what you don't understand.)

There are better ways to make a point than self-mutilation.

JeiFaeKlubs In reply to YesImDeadpool [2012-03-05 13:40:27 +0000 UTC]

Those people had no other possibility left. And it's not self-mutilation, it's suicide.

Anyway, I don't think this is the right place to discuss such things.

YesImDeadpool In reply to JeiFaeKlubs [2012-03-05 13:54:55 +0000 UTC]

They had ONE possibility left; run away, flee, get the hell out of there.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JeiFaeKlubs In reply to YesImDeadpool [2012-03-05 15:29:38 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah, if that was even possible, then there's still that part where you leave everyone behind, fail the people who faught with you and abandon your family to leave for some country that doesn't what you, where they speak a language you don't speak and have a culture and religion that you can't live, without a possibility to find a job. Great.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JeiFaeKlubs In reply to YesImDeadpool [2012-03-05 18:13:05 +0000 UTC]

Okay, let's say they would actually make it with their families AND their protest-collegues to cross the border to pakistan or china - try to live there as a hunter-gatherer! What do you want to hunt?! Dogs?! What do you want to gather?! Garbage?!
Maybe you're just not able to understand the intentions of people who try to protect the country where they and their partens and all their other ancestors have lived and have been burried, where they grew up.
Live is not only about surviving. Maybe you're not old enough to understand that.
And, really, I don't want to keep this discussion up.

I think this is a very original approach to the Occupy and Anonymous symbol. I do non violet protest in the Guy Mask and this problem hits me all the time. They think I'm gonna go all Benihana on their asses. God people are stupid.

GANDHI ON BLACKS AND RACE RELATIONS (Zulus and Kaffirs were African tribes in South Africa)

β€œA general belief seems to prevail in the colony that the Indians are little better, if at all, than the savages or natives of Africa. Even the children are taught to believe in that manner, with the result that the Indian is being dragged down to the position of a raw Kaffir.” (Reference: The Collected Works of Mahatma Gandhi, Government of India (CWMG), Vol I, p. 150)
Regarding forcible registration with the state of blacks: β€œOne can understand the necessity for registration of Kaffirs who will not work.” (Reference: CWMG, Vol I, p. 105)
β€œWhy, of all places in Johannesburg, the Indian Location should be chosen for dumping down all the Kaffirs of the town passes my comprehension…the Town Council must withdraw the Kaffirs from the Location.” (Reference: CWMG, Vol I, pp. 244-245)
His description of black inmates: β€œOnly a degree removed from the animal.” Also, β€œKaffirs are as a rule uncivilized - the convicts even more so. They are troublesome, very dirty and live almost like animals.” - Mar. 7, 1908 (Reference: CWMG, Vol VIII, pp. 135-136)
The Durban Post Office: One of Gandhi’s major β€œachievements” in South Africa was to promote racial segregation by refusing to share a post office door with the black natives.
Sergeant Major Gandhi: Learn how Gandhi became a Sgt. Major in the British Army and eagerly participated in the 1906 British war against the black Zulus.
Gandhi and South African Blacks: Gandhi wrote extensively about his experiences with the blacks of South Africa. He always termed them β€œKaffirs” and his writings reveal a deep-seated disdain for these African natives

The one flash of red/pink works. I agree - the Guy Fawkes mask is a very mixed symbol and this makes sense.

And then after all of that, there's something slightly mischievousness about it.

I undestand you but using fawkes face for a non-violent movement is a huge contradiction, It seems like it was just a unjustified icon only promoted by a estetic and rebel apereance rather than a political position as v, in his case anarco-insurrecionalism is not opossed revolutionary violence in any way.
But i like the contradiction and crash between both in the poster...

Tbh I think this is fucking cool. At least you can be reassured by the fact that you KNOW you are so much more informed than the ignorant people who will criticise you without being able to back themselves up.

Plus, they only criticise you because they don't have talent like you do.
