I can't deny Brian Froud was a child hood hero, usually I hope I've developed my own style, but I'm honored to have my work compared to one of my favorite movies! Thanks so much for your comment!!

She is extremely attractive to the eye...your description of her makes her even more so. I love her face, especially her enourmous eyes. The colors go together well and every detail lends itself so nicely to the look. Simply gorgeous.

Oh, it's all just clay... Little strips of ivory sculpey on the tips, smoke and mirrors. hehe
Works out well, Thanks for noticing!

Yeah, her face and hands are polymer (Jack's Ethnic Prosculpt) and her feet are Magic Sculpt... the hair was this cool (green although the color isn't nearly as bright here in this pic) Boa I found at XXI Forever (clothing store) I think it's Mohair.. but the lable doesn't say, it's super soft what ever it is!

Why did you use two different types of clay on her?

JillWilli In reply to Aoede [2004-11-01 00:35:43 +0000 UTC]
Ah, good question. Because I wanted her to have really skinny legs, and the Magic Sculpt is best for that. It's really rock hard when it cures, and you don't have to worry as much about it fracturing or breaking (shipping and handling) as you would polymer.

Ah thanks! Does she have a wire frame? I have problems with armatures and getting my figures to STAND...let alone squat!
π: 0 β©: 1
JillWilli In reply to Aoede [2004-11-01 13:41:21 +0000 UTC]
Squatting is easier than standing, actually, because instead of having to balance on two points you've got three (tripod, you know?). But yes, I always make a wire frame for my figures. I know there are folks who don't, but I don't know how to work any other way. Once you have an armature you can do all sorts of things with it to make it stand, squat, what ever. It's actually my favorite part, because making the little stick-man do all these dynamic things is entertaining.. LOL... and I love big feet, which makes it easier as well... big flippers make sturdy figures. Also some folks (who aren't as nuts about big feet as I am) use brass rods to make their figures stand. They either have the rods go from the dolls foot contact point into a hole in the base or the other way round. With that technique you can even make a figure balancing on one foot. It give you a whole new range of possibilities!

More excellent work, this is very well done. The face is expressive with those large eyes, and everything about her just seems timid and fleeting. The hair is nice, the leaves are a good touch, even if it is an obvious addition to make.
I like how you have a sort of story surrounding all of your sculptures, that shows you care. They're all pretty interesting, for not being too elaborate. You don't go into that much details in the description, at least, you may have thoughts about them you don't reveal. Anyway, the backstories are nice.
I notice the wildchild, raised by the wood, has a little metal ring on her right hand. Hmm. I suppose she found it?
