Description
This year was my coworker's daughter's Quinceanera. My co-worker had seen the Captain America doll I made for my friend
and asked if I might do a doll for her daughter. That was months ago and both of us had forgotten about it.
The week before her party I remembered and asked if she still wanted me to do one. She said yes but because she took the week off before the party to prepare I ended up with only 2 days to do this. So with a picture of her daughter in her dress (bottom picture), I went to the store for yarn and supplies.
Luckily I already had a doll head and hair cap done so I just got to work on the dress. I was able to finish the the torso and skirt and took that to work to make sure it looked right (my coworker said she wanted the skirt to be REALLY POOFY). She was satisfied, so I took the doll home and stuffed and closed the bottom off. I sewed her hair on (I had crocheted that the day before) and was ready to decorate.
This is probably the most extravagant doll I've ever made. I found some cute flower shaped sequins and using my sparkly, clear beads and the picture for reference, sewed them on the bodice and sleeves. Then I marked the skirt with the silk flowers in the three areas her skirt was decorated with flowers and tried to decorate in a similar fashion. It's hard to see but I used the sequins as well as some sparkly, lavender beads to give variety.
The crown was just some silver pipe cleaner and for her bouquet I glued rhinestones on a single, silk and gauze rose.
When I presented her to my coworker she was absolutely speechless and amazed I was able to bust out this doll in two days. (I didn't tell her I was up until 2a decorating the dress).
When she came back after being off she said her daughter loved it. Couldn't stop exclaiming, "She looks just like me!".
Even though I usually hate being self congratulatory, I was enormously pleased with myself.
