Description
This was more practice on painting skin, and I definitely think I'm getting much better at it. n_n(this is the completed version of a work-in-progress I posted a while ago - you can still see it in my scraps).
Anyway, this is Oracle, she normally has eyes the same colour as her hair, but I thought the contrast with the turquoise was more striking.
The cityscape in the background is a modified stock image ( [link] ) from
Total time: A fair while. I'm still getting used to digital painting, so it's more time consuming than when I do cel shading.
Sketched by hand, scanned and painted in photoshop 7 and painter 7.
Art and character design is copywrite to me (Jigokuko), unauthorised re-use without my expressed written consent is prohibited.

owah i love the colours, how long did that hair take, looks awesome. i really like that blue that highlights certain parts of the picture. noicely done.

I did the hair in two parts - the part on the left first, and it turned out much nicer - I don't really remember how long it took, but it was definitely much longer than I'd like. I've just found out how to do a better technique that is a lot faster, and looks a little better (imo).

Yeah, the hair took forever, and i'm still not fully happy with it - I have to develop my skills in that area some more.
The top was pretty intricate - if I had an uber large image uploaded, you'd be able to see all sorts of squiggly lines on the maroon-y part that make it look kind of lacy - that's in addition to the lace parts that are more visible around the edge of the top. Surprisingly enough, the top was one of the things I enjoyed painting the most.
...and don't be jealous of me, check out `blackeri or *heise or *yumedust and you'll see i'm not that great. XD

nah man, the hair fits great with the rest of the picture, sure its not photo-realistic, but it has the same style as the rest of the painting, makes it awsome! keep it up!

Fantastic work, painting-style CG scares the dickens out of me.
Her hair and eyes were the first thigns i noticed, suck wonderful colors! Her hair is so detailed too! My other favorite part is her pants, they look almost real. I like the texture you managed to give them.
All in all, amazing work keep it up!

I think I'd have preferred the eyes how you originally envisioned them...
then again, Elfen Lied made me a sucker forred hair and eyes so what do I know ><
Anyway, really spiffy piece of work, I can sense some iminent *pop* moments forthcoming from that little outfit
Also that highlight on the right shoulder seems a little odd since it appears that the hair would shield it from any of the direct lights.
Still very pretty o' course, but if you go through life never seeing the flaws in what you do you'll never have the urge to strive for better.... at least, that's what I keep telling myself >>

Metal is one of my weakest points, and I really need to practice more. I might go back and redo the armband if I get time, but more likely, I'll just practice more on the next picture I do.
Supposedly the highlight on the shoulder is reflected light from her hair, but I think I made it a little bit too bright for the effect I was going for. It was a practice session for eventually getting something like this: [link]

Hehe, I'm a tabletop wargamer, so I know the pain of trying to achieve metal-look without using 'metallic' paints. And I thought that was hard >< I don't envy you for the trying.
And I see what you mean about the shoulder, and yeah, really is just too harsh for what it is, I man the highlight looks harsher than the one on the shoulder that looks like it is under direct light.
And you're welcome to the crits >< usually I poke holes at things too much, or when it's not appropriate, so it's always nice to know that every once in a while it's apprecitated >>
