I love the pose, great shot. The lighting is very nice and natural except for that little bit beaming down on the arm. It looks like a candid moment, even if it wasn't

Thanks the lighting was a bit fortuitious, hidden by my sons right elbow is the lamp providing the main source of light.

You're right, that fireplace rocks.

Thanks. It was taken with natural lighting. - He was using a reading light which just happened to be behind his elbow from the viewpoint of the camera.

It turns out it was Mad Magazine.

I took this shot the same evening I took the picture of his brother in the [A boy and his dog] picture. The same day as the school field trip to [Longs Marine Lab]

Very nice portrait . There's a nice cozy, warm feel to the picture, and the composition is great. What's he reading...? It looks a bit like a comic to me... which is cool. Great stuff
