Description A view down the lane through the oak trees to a windmill.

If I was more familiar with PhotoShop, I'd try to enhance the focus around the [windmill] to make it more visible.
This photo was taken with a Sony Cybershot with only 3x Optical zoom. If I had my current camera, I think I would have been able to retain the trees and get a good shot of the windmill. Will try that in the future.

A picture from my Ranch series.

Overall the photo is okay. For one thing it’s hard to call the main focus of it a windmill when you can barely see it even blown up. However, I do think there are some good parts to the photo. For one the tree. It’s big, It’s loud and it’s proud. I would crop it to just beyond the edge of the road so there would be more emphasis on the windmill because it would be framed and the road lines would lead up to it. If you have any skills in Photoshop I would also try to get rid of the telephone pole. Very distracting and not pleasing to the eye. With the other half of the picture I think you could still get a whole other photo out of it.

Crop just beyond where the foreground fence posts begin over to the right and just up where the tree branch begins. This gives a whole different view on just the barn and fence. Rugged yet beautiful. And one final tip for all would be to play around with the contrast. This allows certain elements to pop where they should and downplays others that might be distracting. This photo definitely has potential. I would just play around with it. Have fun.

Thanks, I'm working on learning photoshop. I agree this picture doesn't live up to it's potential. I'll be revisiting this one as I learn more.

I appreciate your input!
jeez. That sounds trite. I appreciate your taking the time to constructively critique the picture.

Thanks, it will probably be a couple of months or more before I get around to it. I've got a number of ideas I want to explore, panoramas I want to compose. I'm getting more photo projects going than I have time for.

I guess that's a nice problem to have

I like the composition of this one with the warm tones of late afternoon light coming through the trees and highlighting the bark. A little judicious sharpening might help the depth of field. It has the look of a low megapixel image that I am all too familiar with because of my own first digital camera. It is a nice image with a story to tell. If I were setting the shot up I think I would move a couple feet to the left and toward the trees to get rid of the junk in the right foreground. It would also change the angle at which you see the farmhouse.

Thanks for your considered critique. If I get back there again, I'll try it. IIRC, I tried being to the left a bit, but their are a number of suckers sticking out from the tree about eye level. Still, if I lowered the camera that would give it a better angle for the house. I believe I was trying to highlight the windmill in the shot, so I didn't even consider the house on the right.

You're right, the picture was taken with a 3.2 Megapixel camera, Sony Cybershot point and shoot type. I'm thinking I might be able to enhance the colors in Photoshop. This is one of my favorite pictures in my ranch series.

I actually like this one as it is (with the windmill hardly noticeable) The composition is so nice with the trees just kind of hanging there over the dirt road I'd actually like the windmill less visible. The little fence going down the road is so cute and everything in this picture just fits together. I like this one best out of the three you showed me

Thanks! It's actually my favorite as well. The windmill one appears to be more popular tho'.

Glad you like it. The entire area around the ranch is beautiful. The neighbors property used to be a dairy (in the 1930's) and I've taken pictures of some of their old farm machinery.

I'll see if I can get those posted too.

The composition of this piece is nice, have you tried warming up the light? It might look cool.

To be honest I'm not sure how to do that. I've yet to install PS. All I've done with any of my pics is crop and make minor overall lighting adjustments using tools like [Irfanview] (i_view32.exe)

I like the color and lighting cast by the sun in this picture. I'm guessing it was near sunset when you shot this?

It was late afternoon, about an hour before sunset. Glad you like it. I intentionally waited on this shot for near sunset.
