Description Mature Oak in Spring bloom. This photo was taken in April, when the flowers were in bloom and the Oak trees were awakening and putting on their fresh green finery. Photo taken with a SonyCybershot camera. The only photo adjustments were a brightening the color so you could see the tractor below the tree in the shadow.

If you look at the tractor beneath the tree, you can get an idea of the *SIZE* of this oak tree. It's enormous, with a long straight trunk that would make an admirable keel. The owner of these trees has had offers in the past from folks interested in harvesting them for boat keels, and gun stock and furniture. Thankfully he declined.

To the right, the white flat hill is the dregs from a clay pit. This area features quality clay, and has pretty much been mined out. I believe corning closed their last pit mine in the early 90's. Before the pit mines, the clay was mined by running tunnels through the veins of clay. There used to be an abandoned clay mine about a mile out of town that gave evidence of that. However, as it was being used as a target range, party hang-out for neer-do-wells, the remnants were blasted and only rubble remains. I have a couple of pictures somethere tho'...
