I started off with simple flats and some sort of starburst design in the background in mind, but this was what came out in the end

awesome work man! Is that white ink splatter in the schadow? Nice way te keep every part of the picture interesting!

JHarren In reply to leodewinter [2008-12-19 00:31:08 +0000 UTC]
Yea, its white paint. White ink disappears after it dries so Pro Art or white guache are opaque enough to rest on top.

Dang dude, 2 hours? Are you inking right overtop of the pencils or are you using a light table? I'm curious if you're just burning through or if there's something I need to know!
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
JHarren In reply to Monkeyslunch [2008-12-19 00:30:04 +0000 UTC]
I did pencils and inks right on top. I've thought about doing the scan and print blue line method but its another step to get in the way.
When I feel inspired I plow through rather than stifle it with other steps. Plus I don't have a printer or a decent computer in my apartment.

Hm, makes sense! I got rather lucky this year. One of my roommates was working at a drafting company and they were going to just throw out a perfectly fine 6 foot long drafting light table because they got a new one, but now we have it in our dining room as our kitchen table. hah. I just put my pencils down and then a piece of bristol over top and ink that way.

daaaamn, that's a sweet find. I've always wanted one of those things. I have a mini 11x17 light box, maybe I'll try inking the pencils that way. Thanks for the tip.

There's a fair share of white paint corrections on it. This thing was almost 3D
