Description
It's been six years but here's a new Wings of Fire OC because I felt like painting dragons again. Specifically, I felt inspired to improve my ability to paint wings! This time around, I'm using the hybrid IceWing/SkyWing base I created .

Opal is based on a Dragon's Breath Opal*! Please know that I named her before I'd read The Dangerous Gift, so I'm sorry for using a canon name. Oh well! She's half IceWing and appropriately shiny! Colors are mostly SkyWing influenced, and specifically she is intended to be the secret AMAB bastard child of Vermilion, only allowed to live because Scarlet thought she was pretty and not a threat to her throne. Thankfully, Ruby is much more chill than her mother.

*Technically, Dragon's Breath "opals" are not natural opals. They are man-made, usually out of glass rather than synthetic opal. Mexican fire opals are the closest true red opal, but these are often clear, and they might rarely exhibit a play of green "fire."

Personally, I think they're beautiful, and the idea of being labeled as inauthentic while trying to be perceived as having worth, for being unique and beautiful and for still requiring skill and effort to create... just as her own existence is a struggle to be seen for her own worth rather than merely being dismissed as a pretender... I think it works rather well :')
