Description The Quiet Man and Sarah Hansel finish their dressage test. For those that don't know, the next day The Quiet Man fell after a fence and broke his shoulder and was later euthanized. Although it was possible that the shoulder, broken in multiple places, could have healed the gelding would have been in pain for the rest of his life.

RIP.

This is an absolutely gorgeous shot- plus, it's always nice to see dressage shots of the eventers... so many people focus on the jumping

Wow. I haven't heard about these injuries at the event. D: Poor thing(s).

I didn't get to go to the Rolex event this year... but I want to sometime. :<

Great shot though. ^^

I would absolutely love to go. I don't live terribly far from the place normally, but this year I was on the other side of the world. XD

Just curiously, is it pretty crowded? You seemed to get some good shots if it was.

Not really... I mean there are a lot of people and some of the shopping booths can get a bit chaotic, but there's space for everyone. The only truly crowded place is the water complex on the cross country course... I got there three hours before the event even started to get a third row seat!

Yeah, and from what I've read 12 riders have died this year or something like that... I mean, Darren Chiacchia is still recovering from March injuries... Rules are going to start changing, they're gonna have to. And PETA will probably be freaking out... Oh boy.

SenzaFallisce In reply to Jennycallie [2008-05-02 05:39:30 +0000 UTC]

Oh no! Not Chiacchia! That man is incredible. I hope he recovers soon. I can't believe that....12?? That's way too close to being an unlucky 13...kinda creepy. They better startt changing some rules. Something has gone horribly wrong within the past 2 years. I don't EVER remember that many people OR horses dying in 1 year! That's insane.

the problem is the challanges in dressage and show jumping. The horses are listening too much for their riders when it come to XC and so if the rider misjudges it slightly the horse will fall.

What a tragedy.

I witnessed both his fall as well as Laine Ashker's that day. A gloomy day in the sport of eventing.

Oh man, you saw the falls? Wow. It's been a rough year... I fully expect new rules to start taking place quite soon. It will be interesting...

I heard about the horrible accidents at the Rolex. Its really sad that stuff like that has to happen, but it does.

Great shot to remember a gorgeous horse.

It is- I couldn't believe two horses came to such grief as well as a rider, though she is at least recovering. At least the horses love it.

Thanks. I'm happy to have a photo of him relaxed after a successful ride. I love how happy his rider is.
