Lovely work. The piece is moody and atmospheric and the turtle's expression conveys solemnity and wisdom, without being anthropomorphized. I feel peaceful when I look at it and think this is something I might hang on my wall.

The lighting is well-executed, being consistent and making good use of contrast. Composition-wise too, you have used negative space skilfully to enhance the mood of the work. I think a busy background would have been detrimental here; pure black communicates peace and gravity.

The colouring is skilful, especially given that this is traditional work which is unforgiving in terms of mistakes, and there is good use of analogous colours. Again, the blue-green palette contributes to a feeling of silence and peace. Your technique overall is solid and you have used various methods dexterously to create a fine painting.

Anatomically, I'm hesitant to be too specific in con-crit because I don't really know much about turtles, but I think there is something off about the right eye (left, from our point of view.) Although this is obviously a three-quarter view, the right eye looks like it would be a different shape to the left eye if turned front-facing. Otherwise, I think this is a very solid depiction of a stylized turtle.

You have considerable talent for painting animals and creatures and as someone who struggles with traditional artwork, I applaud your efforts. I look forward to seeing more from you! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/c/c… " width="20" height="20" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="60" title="Clap"/>

This is so cool and kind of creepy in a way at the same time. He sort of reminds me of something you'd see in the older disney villains such as the mouse villain guy in The Great Mouse Detective and Ursula in The Little Mermaid and ect. Either way, Β I think this guy's really cool, though. I love your painting style. I'm not adventurous enough to try real paints myself so i love seeing what others who are, do with them.
