Description With all my pictoral tributes to MST3K, I realized that I should probably also pay tribute to the brilliant men and women who put the show together for so long. For those not in the know, here's who you're looking at, along with their tenures at Best Brains, Inc.:

IN THE HEXFIELD VIEWSCREEN
- Mary Jo Pehl (1992-1999): Staff writer beginning in Season 4, she became a show regular in Season 7 as Pearl Forrester, Dr. Forrester's mother and sidekick after TV's Frank left; starting in Season 8, she moved up to head Mad.
- Paul Chaplin (1991-1999): Staff writer beginning in Season 3, and occasional guest star. His most memorable appearance was as the devil Pitch in episode 521 "Santa Claus".

AROUND THE COMMUNICATIONS TABLE
- Jim Mallon (1988-1999): Executive producer, contributing writer, and puppeteer for Gypsy from 1989 to 1997, at which point he handed the role over to Patrick Brantseg.
- Trace Beaulieu (1988-1996): Staff writer and double-duty actor, playing both Dr. Clayton Forrester and Crow T. Robot up until Season 7.
- Michael J. Nelson (1989-1999): Head writer and frequent guest star during the first four and a half seasons; stepped up to the position of host as Mike Nelson starting with 513 "The Brain That Wouldn't Die".
- Kevin Murphy (1988-1999): Staff writer and puppeteer for Tom Servo from 1990 to 1999. Beginning in Season 8, he also took on the additional role of dimwitted ape-man Professor Bobo.

BESIDE THE SPIRAL-ON-DOWN
- Bridget Jones (1991-1999): Home writer, wife of Michael J. Nelson, and occasional guest star, most memorably as Nuveena in 524 "12 to the Moon".
- Frank Conniff (1990-1995): Staff writer, movie selector, and actor, portraying Dr. Forrester's bumbling sidekick TV's Frank from 201 "Rocketship X-M" to 624 "Samson vs. the Vampire Women". Made a special return guest appearance in 1001 "Soultaker".

NOT PICTURED
- Joel Hodgson (1988-1993): Series creator, staff writer, and host (as the character Joel Robinson) from the primitive KTMA season until the midpoint of Season 5, when he left to pursue other endeavors. Also made a special return guest appearance in 1001 "Soultaker".
- Josh Weinstein (1988-1990): Staff writer, original puppeteer for Tom Servo, and actor as Dr. Forrester's original sidekick, Dr. Laurence Erhardt. Left after Season 1 to seek a writing career in Hollywood. Took the name J. Elvis Weinstein so as not to be confused with the Josh Weinstein who wrote for "The Simpsons".
- Bill Corbett (1995-1999): Assistant writer beginning in Season 6, but quickly promoted to full-fledged Brain after Trace Beaulieu left. Took over the role of Crow T. Robot in Season 8, as well as filling the new role of Observer.

JB, a little stat here....the date that Joel's final episode of MST3K, 'Mitchell' aired, which was Oct. 23, 1993, in Major League Baseball, at SkyDome in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the Toronto Blue Jays won their 2nd straight World Series Championship, off a come-from-behind 3-run home run, courtesy Joe Carter, to win Game 6 8-6, and that series 4 games to 2.

It also caused a localized earthquake under the SkyDome floor when the fans exploded at that hit.

It is still, to this day, the biggest thing to ever happen in that building.

The crew was always amazing. Even when Johl left the show, I was shocked they found Mike so quickly, then looking back at old episodes, I realized he's been there the whole time, writing and playing small parts, Like in Gamera vs Guir! Oh, I love that episode!

"Gamera is Filled with meat!
We've been eating turtle meat!
We've been eating Ga-Mer-AAAA!!"

I was in a Mike mood back when I drew this, but had I drawn it now, I probably would have situated it sometime in late 1992/early 1993, when Joel was still on board (the cast as I've drawn them here is circa 1994).

Indeed I did. And perhaps if more of the people I've illustrated above were involved in it, it wouldn't be so embarassingly awful.

Really cool! I just wish you could have managed to get Joel, Josh, and Bill in there! I still need to get off my butt and draw some of the MST3K characitures that I've wanted to do for years.

Huh, quite a few interesting details I had not known before. I think the only cross-role I picked up on aside from the obvious was Bobo and Tom Servo (by Kevin Murphy).

By the way, have you ever heard of Mike Nelson's new project, Riff Trax? I'd seen a few samples on YouTube and they were spectacular.

Indeed, RiffTrax seems to be a hoot from the samples I've seen. I haven't downloaded any yet, though, since I own none of the movies they've done so far and I'm too strapped for cash at the moment to rent a DVD every week.
