Painting of the first story beat. It's not finished to me, and it bugs me so I'll probably get around to polishing it up with more funky detail to furnish their van home, to make the scene more personal and intimate. doot dee dootRelated content

I've been searching for good illustrations of the characters and I have to ay that of all the internet these are the best.

You know, if they ever made a movie of this, I can imagine either Rene Zelwegger or Michelle Williams as Crystal Lil, Sascha Baron Cohen or Johnny Depp as Al, newcomers as Oly and Chick, possibly a known actor or not as Arty, Jodelle Ferland as Both Ely and Iphy, Mila Kunis as Miranda, and--if she gained some weight for the role--Jane Lynch as Mary Lick. God, I LOVE this book!

I'd love to see if you could do the scene near the end where Chick has enough and *spoilers to anyone who hasn't read the book* blows up the carnival with his powers and boils Arty alive in his water tank. That scene made me cry.

I really love this picture! The colour choice was perfect, the same way that I pictured it. Even though they were so different, they came together as a family, and I like this because it's before things got bad...
