Really nice piece here. I like the way you pushed the background back a bit. I do tend to agree with the above poster on the interior lines, but I guess that is becoming a theme with me. However, I think this is really, really strong.

Great work!

It loses a lot compared to the line work. The delicate inside lines no longer contrast noticeably with the containment lines. They blend into the amorphous gray areas. The main contrasts in this treatment have to be redirected from the line weights to the tonal scheme. You started to do that, but doesn't look as if you made the switch, completely.

Im on the fence when it comes to which turned out better. I like the little elements that I was able to add with the grays and white pencil.

I definitely think you're in love with the artistry of inking.

Yes. But I think those little elements stop short of translating the linework into tone. You see their potential in your imagination, but that has not been realized objectively in the drawing. It's like what I see when I look at my sketches. I don't see all the searching lines, only the ones that hit the marks. (Everyone else sees a mess of searching lines!)

This is not so much an exercise in inking as in painting, or at least it could be taken that way. It has a lot of potential. But in terms of actualization, the other wins hands down (in my book).

I definitely know what you're saying with it being better. I don't think my vision is as far as I'd like.

All right then. We're on the same page. But what was that remark about me being in love with art of inking? Aren't you?

And if you're right about me, then how did THAT happen? I used to hate it! I used to break my pens and and cut off the tufts of my brushes! I used to bang my head against the wall and cry out loud - "This is driving me crazy!" (Yep. I think you're right. Must be love.)
