Description My vacation is rapidly coming to an end, so I thought I'd contribute to the meme before it becomes too tiresome. Enjoy!

Steps to import and upload (Assumes you have a copy of unity installed and the VRChat SDK added to it):

1. Click on the "Assets" dropdown in unity
2. Click on "Import Package" -> "Custom Package"
3. Navigate to the unitypackage file you downloaded from this page, and select it.
4. After unity imports the file into your project, open the provided scene file in the "Assets" folder to make the avatar appear on the stage.
5. Click on the character in the viewport, and look in the inspector pane for the section titled "Pipeline Manager (Script)". Make sure that the section contains a blank text field and an "Attach (Optional)" button. If it doesn't, click the "Detach (Optional)" button.
6. You should be done! Upload the avatar to your account, and enjoy! \o/

1/10/18 - Noticed that the GREAT FLAMING EYEBROWS became less great when you got close up to this little guy. I think I corrected the problem, but I'm still new to unity's particle system so just let me know if there are any other issues and I'll try to fix it.

Thank you for the kind complement. Unfortunately, my free time is extremely limited due to mandatory OT at work, and other obligations. Alternate forms for Aku may appear some point in the future, but it won't be for months yet.

I'm very sorry, but my current set of obligations are consuming most of my free time atm. The one time I did try converting a model from MMD to vrchat, I leaned heavily on an addon for blender called VRCats. There are mutiple tutorials out there for the addon that do a good job walking you through the process. If you haven't tried already, I think you shoud give it a shot. It's not super easy,  but it was way easier than I was epecting thanks to the addon. www.youtube.com/watch?t=13s&v=…

You shouldn't have to add the pipeline manager or any other components. The character should be set up and ready to upload already when you open the scene file ala step 4.

I wrote up step 5 in case I forget to detach the character before I export it from unity for you guys. If it's still attached to one of my characters, then Unity will throw a not particularly intuitive error because you don't have my account's login credentials.

kuhu In reply to Jagent-7 [2018-01-15 03:17:19 +0000 UTC]

I tried importing it into Unity as well, and I can't see a Pipeline Manager mention in the Inspector portion. All I see are "Transform" and "Animator"

EDIT: I've added the pipeline manager (script), but it does not attach the eyebrows and I found the mouth also doesn't animate. I'm not sure if I have to change the settings for that under animation.

EDIT2: I got it working. I made the silly mistake of dragging in the .fbx instead of opening the unity file itself once I imported. My bad, sorry for the distraction. Thank you for making these

Jagent-7 In reply to kuhu [2018-01-15 04:01:56 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, if you're trying to attach the eyebrows, and you're not seeing the pipeline manager that tells me that you're trying to drag the model onto the stage instead of double clicking the provided scene file which has all that set up. Are you opening this file? If it's not in the Asets folder, it should be in the Aku (Knuckles) folder.

Hi,

When you go click the "Build & Publish" button, you are done interacting with the VRChat tab.

The Game tab should get focus, and you'll have a number of prompts that Unity needs you to fill in including an "Avatar Name" text field and a checkbox that reads "The above information is accurate...".

Once you fill those out you can go to the Scene tab to adjust the camera to your liking for a preview image of your avatar.

When finished, go back to the Game tab, and click the Upload button.

Let me know if that doesn't resolve the issue for you!

I am very new to Unity. How do I make the model appear in the scene after I opened the model in the assets folder?
The model's name does not appear in the list of things that are in the scene (such as the camera and lights).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Jagent-7 In reply to Uxiqiu [2018-01-10 04:40:32 +0000 UTC]

I'm slightly confused. If you open the file that's listed in the assets folder within unity, the model should have appeared on the stage.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Uxiqiu In reply to Jagent-7 [2018-01-10 14:49:46 +0000 UTC]

You know that vertical list on the left that shows what is in the scene? As I already mentioned (although I could have phrased it better), the model is not in that list, although it is in the horizontal list at the bottom.

Jagent-7 In reply to Uxiqiu [2018-01-10 23:16:15 +0000 UTC]

Sounds to me like you have imported the unitypackage file, but didn't open the scene file that's been added to your assets folder in unity described in step 4 in the description. Double clicking that should add everything you need to stage and scene hierarchy.

Uxiqiu In reply to Jagent-7 [2018-01-11 16:40:14 +0000 UTC]

Okay, I have now gotten to the ‘‘Publish and upload’’ part. After that was done, the window states ‘‘You cannot edit your VRChat data while the Unity Application is running’’.
I then get place the VRC camera that spawned and made it look at the model from the front, checked the box in the avatar info and clicked ‘Upload’, but Unity shows no progress of uploading, even after a few minutes (a potential explanation could be that it states ‘‘InvalidOperationException: Cannot override system-specified headers’’ at the bottom next to a red octagon with an exclamation point).

Jagent-7 In reply to Uxiqiu [2018-01-11 20:23:51 +0000 UTC]

Ok, I think we've almost got this sorted out for you. The "You cannot edit your VRChat data..." error message shows up after you click the "Build & Publish" button, but that's not an error. It just means that you're done interacting with the VRChat tab.

Click the Game tab if it doesn't automatically get focus. You should see an Update Avatar screen and a number of text fields and checkboxes Unity needs you to fill out. You only need to worry about filling in the "Avatar Name" text field and enabling the checkbox that reads "The above information is accurate...".

Once you fill those out you can go to the Scene tab to adjust the camera to your liking for a preview image of your avatar.

When finished, go back to the Game tab, and click the Upload button.

Let me know if that doesn't resolve the issue for you!

Uxiqiu In reply to Jagent-7 [2018-01-12 14:58:33 +0000 UTC]

That is actually how far I got last time. The part about the tated error with the ‘‘system-specified headers’’ occurs after I hit the upload button, and the load bar that appears will just remain at zero.

Jagent-7 In reply to Uxiqiu [2018-01-12 22:29:28 +0000 UTC]

Oh, hmm... That's beyond my knowledge of unity I think. Sounds like you're running into a problem with either unity itself, or the vrchat sdk. I don't know how to diagnose either of those, and my google searches are returning results that are too in the weeds for me to make heads or tails of @_@.

Double check that you're using the latest VRChat SDK in Unity 5.6.3p. If that isn't the problem, then I'd suggest that you turn to the vrchat discord if you haven't already. Someone there might be able to help you.

How'd you get the animated Eyebrows Texture to work. Once imported mine just imports the model with no eyebrows and the eyebrow materials goes into a seperate folder from the original Aku (Knuckles) folder with the model. When just following the steps you provided it Imports with just the model and no eyebrows let alone the animation.

Jagent-7 In reply to JimBobRob [2018-01-08 09:31:40 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure I understand the issue you've encountered. I've seen people using the avatar in game with the eyebrows animating, and I tested importing it into unity before I uploaded it.

At the risk of sounding like a conceited butt, have you tried to import the model into the game yet? I notice that the eyebrows will only animate under specific circumstances when you're previewing it in Unity (you need to click on the particle emitters on his head or in the scene hierarchy). They even scale incorrectly when viewed in the avatar window in-game, but look fine once you put on the skin and start walking around in the world.

Jagent-7 In reply to JimBobRob [2018-01-08 11:38:19 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm.... I'm afraid I may not be familiar enough with unity to properly diagnose the problem. I just pulled down the file again, and after importing the sdk and the aku (Knuckles).unitypackage file I was able to import the little guy with the eyebrows intact.

I don't suppose you've tried starting over with a fresh project?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JimBobRob In reply to Jagent-7 [2018-01-08 11:53:55 +0000 UTC]

Tried starting from scratch in Unity and redownloading the Zip and problem still persists. Think I found the problem, Checking scene hierarchy there isn't even a particle emitter. Here's images of all the components of the hierarchy and everything that's been imported.

Jagent-7 In reply to JimBobRob [2018-01-08 12:32:19 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I don't understand why you aren't getting the particle emitters. Looking through the Import prompt on my end, I'm not seeing the particle emitters in the list during the import process either. They are only visible in the scene hierarchy after the unitypackage file is imported in.

--

Oh hey, maybe I just wasn't clear enough in my import steps? I was able to reproduce the issue you describe by dragging the VRChat-Aku (Knuckles).fbx file onto the stage instead of opening the provided VRChat - Aku (Knuckles).unity scene file that should have been added to your assets folder. Is that the problem?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JimBobRob In reply to Jagent-7 [2018-01-08 12:45:25 +0000 UTC]

Yup that was it. So used to setting up models manually that I thought loading up the fbx was the model that was needed and didn't see the .unity file that was all setup and ready to go. Thanks for the help and taking the time out of your day to assist me.
