Description I wonder if anyone remembers Keroppi... He was one of Sanrio's first characters back in the day. (His birthday is June 10 1987. Don't ask me why I know this. >.>

I was so sad when they phased him out!! The people at Sanrio have a major mammal bias, in my opinion. I went to the website to see if they still had Keroppi merch, and it was all furry little rodents, a cat, and a BULLET TRAIN. Why have a bullet train when you can have an adorable frog...???

Regardless! I felt like Keroppi shouldn't die. Here he is in my needle felt rendition; I was experimenting with different shapes... kind of getting the hang of it, always room to improve, though. Feel free to critique, I would love the feedback.

Of course I remember Keroppi! He was one of my favorites..along with Pekkle (whose birthday is July 27, 1989, don't ask me why I know that)

Anyways, I absolutely adore this! I love the red and white stripes. Did you find a felt fabric like that or did you have to sew red and white felts together? Either way, it's amazing.

If you wanted to make it look EXACTLY like the character, you could make the eyes the same width as the face, but who cares..I wouldn't change a thing.

thank you so much for your feedback!! I felted the fabric... it was a pain but it was a labor of love. I might end up doing more Sanrio characters in the future; I guess Pekkle is officially on the list.

The stripes look like they could have been sewn because they look so level.

I have a wallet with him on it too! The only thing I can dare 'critique' is that Keroppi has lost weight, but that can be just good life choices you know?

Lol, no, I agree! I used my Keroppi plush, which is much skinnier, as a reference. Then when I went online I was like, CRAP!

very adorable! did you use a single needle or a multiple needle technique for this?

A combination, actually. I have this needle from Clover that allows you to have up to three needles at a time, but I ended up using two at the most, one for the fine details such as the cheeks, eyes, mouth, stripes, bowtie, limbs, etc. Thank you very much! Are you a Sanrio fan?

depends on what your trying to resolve. I usually use one needle when working on three dimensional projects, though, as it gives better control of shape. I also find that a larger gauge needle makes for a more swift finish.

Do you use an un-dyed core or wrap your colored wool for density?

heh heh, I actually started doing this three days ago, so I'm not sure exaccctly what that means...

You should post some of your creations on DA! I'd love to see

three days? impressive.
I think I've got one up here somewhere... I'll have to look.

anyways, when making large or three dimensional projects, to save on $$$, you may want to use just a corse un-dyed wool for the body core. It's way less expensive than the dyed stuff.
