Agreed. It can be tough. Also, the level of activity you display makes a difference.
Might I suggest adding your art to groups?

I use reference all the time


I prefer to work that way although I can draw without it and have a lot of art I've done with little or no reference.

I like realism so might as well work from the 'real'. That's my take. You learn from every piece you do...so hopefully working from a model is building your memory. I worked a LOT on anatomy and all the basics so when I work from photo reference I change anything I don't agree with...you know how photos sometimes don't translate) seems to me you are working very well...so as long as the work is improving I wouldn't change a thing.
