Thanks! Luckily there was no hummingbird attack! It's a little less scary when you can see that the body is about the size of an adult thumb

He's actually an Allen's - they look almost identical but the Allen's male has green on the top of the head and back which you can see, while the Rufous is all rust-red. It's so easy to get some hummers mixed up, like the Ruby-throat and the Broad-tailed - apparently the only difference in those two males is whether their tail feathers are pointed or not, which can be impossible to tell in many cases.
