She studied hard and became a certified A&P (Airframe and Powerplant) mechanic. She was determined to learn everything about the maintenance and repair of airplanes, and eventually, she landed a job on an airplane maintenance team at a local airport. Despite her small size, her team quickly realized that Mia's height was an asset. She was able to fit into tight spaces and reach areas that the taller mechanics couldn't. One day, while working on a new Boeing 747, the team encountered a problem. The APU (Auxiliary Power Unit) needed to be replaced, but it was located in a narrow and hard-to-reach space.
