Description Yes, I was one among the many to point a finger at Bryan and Mike for 'ruining' the Avatar finale for us, zutarians. But now that some days have passed I can understand that it's not Bryke's fault at all.

It's not their fault that:
1. The finale was postponed.
2. The book ended up coming out before the Avatar finale.

And more importantly, it's not their fault that they didn't think Zutara was a possibility before airing the show. Shocking, I know. But can you blame them for wanting Kataang and Maiko to happen? Of course not!

And before you say that they were deliberately cruel to us, zutarians, I'll tell you that no, they were actually really, really nice to us. In the first and second season, Zuko and Katara's relationship was almost non-existent. That could have continued in season three, leaving us with almost no interaction whatsoever. But they didn't! They gave us many Zutara moments to fuel fanfiction/fanart for years to come!

Iroh's words in The Book, are what made it for me. Because if Iroh is wondering if Zuko and Katara would be a good match, then that's a nod to us that we're not as crazy as we appear, don't you think?

Now... if they can keep that 'no epilogue' thing in the series too... *crosses fingers*

Just keep pissing Bryke off, guys, that's what we're here for. XD

I'm actually kind of glad they spoiled us before the finale because it got all of the shipping out of the way so that everyone could watch the finale and enjoy it without worrying about shipping.

I agree that even though Bryke didn't make Zutara cannon, they at least threw us a bone. They gave fanfic writers an awful lot to work with, the hug, the saving, the healing. And even though the show ended with Kataang and Maiko, I think there were so many things that happened throughout the series that allow us to argue that once things settle down and people have to face real-life with their respective partners, things may change. Even if Bryke swears it could never happen, they ended their story at the Kataang kiss. It's up to the fanfic writers to decide where it goes from here! Hey, where did Iroh ship Zutara? I want to see it.

Wait.... What was Iroh saying in the book?

I couldn't find it in my usual book-getting places, and even if I could I didn't want to be spoiled.

How was Iroh a Zutarian? Not that I doubt it, I just wanna know.

YES. AGREED. I get really irritated at Zutarians who whine and whine that Zutara "didn't happen" and that the finale sucked because of it. Bryke went far beyond my expectations as far as Zutara goes, ESPECIALLY in the finale. I was excited and very grateful to them, since I knew from season 1 that, no matter how much I loved Zutara, Kataang would always be the "winner" (whatever that means). I suppose most angry Zutarians are obnoxious tweens without realistic expectations and who don't know how to show appreciation but...*sigh* They just make the rest of us look bad. SO, thank YOU for making this little piece of "get real, Zutarians" and showing that a lot of us are very grateful to Bryke and how they developed Zuko and Katara's relationship. (And for the open-ending. Fanfic writers, go!)

So you agree it was good that the creators 'gave' zutarians a bone right in the finale just to take it right away? Are you serious? That's a joke for zutara shippers in general, not a bone. A 'bone' would be Katara forgiving Zuko right away and be done with it, no more providing enough scenes to make the audience believe that Zutara was leading to canon. BTW the canon pairings were too rushed, there was no development at all of Katara's feelings for Aang and Zuko's feelings for Mai, why? because they spent too much time with Zutara in s3. They actually 'laughed' at those who were expecting what they were providing during the entire season and the shippers(in general) and they should be glad?? I honestly don't understand your logic. Don't put the creators in a pedestral.

but i really do love this piece! yep, Bryke was nice to us Zutarians. yea for them!

i'm gonna miss Avatar. although i'm gonna try to watch Avatar every day until i get sick of the show (which will be never!).

It isn't about the endgame canons, but the end for itself!
the worst of all [SPOILER] is that spirit bending stuff. Ohh, comon, it is the MOST OF THE LAMEST excuse of all! If there's something that must be done then it must be done. Firelord should have been killed and not have his bending taken away.[/]
Unfortunatelly this is going to be the same as Fruits Basket's manga ending. I'm deeply disappointed T.T
Thou I'm gonna survive with fanfics Like you said, i'm happy too with the non-epilogue - it give us a little tiny hope

I'm working on a fanfic right now. It was originally supposed to climax with my OC meeting up to the gaang and helping take down Ozai, but these days, I'm thinking that her own journey's climax would be better served after the finale..
and a sidepoint: I'm a Zutarian who never expected it to become canon. I have this text in one of my posts on avatarspirit: "One note on Zutara: even if it never becomes canon, we all love it anyway. That's the beauty of shipping. After all, what else is fanfiction and fanart for than creating a world where Katara comes to her senses, drops the bald whiny kid and jumps on the emo prince express?"

I would like to hope for something more ambiguous but it probably won't happen, I don't think I'm going to harbor any expectations (even if I have a vague understanding of what goes on at the end ...thanks to spoilers) for anything specific.
Especially in terms of story that they're simply trying to conclude.

Did some research of my own, saw the trailer (like 50 times)
You had the nail on the head, the creators met us all on common ground and thats good to hear, it shows they really care about us and are grateful that we all have taken such a shining to their project.

It will be sad to see it end but fufilling none the less. Can't wait.

EvilPrincessKat [2008-05-20 16:18:16 +0000 UTC]

YES! I totally agree!

I like Zutara too, and I won't pretend I went away completely satisfied with the spoilers I read (and not just for shipping reasons, either). But like others have said, Avatar is Brian & Mike's creation, not ours. Sure, we can take off in creative directions with what they've given us, and we can think of ways it might have been better - but when it comes right down to it they have the final say and we need to respect that. If it wasn't for them, we wouldn't have had all this fun to begin with.

I think we just need to be patient... a crappy kindergarten novelization can't possibly do the real animated finale justice. If you must judge, wait until you see it all in it's proper context.

I never had high hopes for canon Zutara. I would have been wildly happy just to see them as friends - and until I saw the finale trailer I NEVER thought it'd happen! And on top of that, we're going to get so many extra scenes and instances where they interact together which will probably end up being even COOLER than we expect. I think that was incredibly generous of Bryke, and will make the finale MORE than worth watching.

In some ways, "Zutara" ended up getting better treatment and development than the canon ships! So if you're one of those people still butthurt over the way shipping worked out... at least take that as some consolation!
